Indian prime minister Narendra Modi's estranged wife, Jashodaben, survived a fatal crash on Wednesday on a countrywide highway, police confirmed to the BBC.
One in all her relatives died when their vehicle collided with a truck within the western kingdom of Rajasthan.
Ms Jashodaben, her bodyguard and the motive force suffered minor accidents. Seven people have been journeying within the SUV.
Police instructed the BBC that they have got launched an inquiry to discover what brought on the accident.
Ms Jashodaben, who does no longer live with Mr Modi, married him in 1967 whilst he became 17 years old.
She has said in interviews that he had left her after three years, in the course of which they spent some 3 months collectively and they had parted amicably.

Critics have accused him of deserting his wife after he joined the Hindu nationalist agency, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, which prizes celibacy.
