Friends, the Founding Fathers of our Constitution wanted a strong, united India with democratic institutions and we are all for it. But with advent of non-Congress Government in several States and coalition Governments at the Centre, different interpretation is being given to the concept of democracy and autonomy. The regional parties seem to feel that three cannot be democracy without autonomy. But the happenings in North Eastern States, J & K as also in Punjab (till the other day) and so on, seem to undermine the unity of the country. Under the present circumstances, greater autonomy to the States, which have linguistic or regional or religious emphasis and bias, is not advisable.
