As I talked about the architecture of my city JAIPUR in my earlier post, I talked about the famous building of the city. How the city has the most amazing historical buildings that stays just as beautiful today.
If you are not from Jaipur, some place nearby, you'll just Google the city and those are the things that would come up. But then, if you really want to know a city, you know the city from inside. It's when you roam in the city, talk with the local people, eat the local food is when you start getting the idea about what the city has.
Let me start with the name" Jaipur, the pink city ". Why pink city ? So Jaipur is called pink city because back in 18th century, when prince H.R.H. Albert Edward, Prince of Wales arrived in India, and king of Jaipur painted the whole city pink, for his welcome. Later, that become the identity of the city and hence, many part of the city still remains the same color. You find that in the older part of the city.
Also, Jaipur was the first planned city of India. So it has those wide roads, all connecting to each other. The plan of the city is based on concept of nine planets and hence the city is divided in 9 rectangular parts , surrounded by a big wall.
That's one thing that I makes me proud, the way the city is planned.
Then comes the streets. As I already mentioned, Jaipur has huge streets. Because it's a tourist attraction, it comes as a crowded one, with small streets, but they are big enough to hold the traffic. And among the streets, there are a few streets that you get to see in here. One of them in the Hawa Mahal road. It's more of a shopping area road for tourists here. You can walk side the road and explore the shops and market.
Second comes the Chandpole street. Though it's a red light area, but in the evening hours, its so lit up and decoratted that one feels like a festival there.
Other one comes the Vidhan Sabha road. It's so beautiful and posh, you just find yourself mesmerize in it.
You find a lot of street food along these roads. The local one , the best of all the restaurant is on the streets here. The coffee at statue circle, the pav bhaji at Jawahar circle, the pani puri at DSP and alot more. It's a heaven for foodies. So many kind of tastes, colors and texture to the food.
So see, there's lot that this city offers. The color, the festivals, the vibes, the food and so many of things. Never ever disappoints you (even if you are in a fort in summer hot sun)
Have you ever been to Jaipur ? What's your favorite thing here ?
