Theyyam is a ritual of North malabar (kerala), India.
As a spiritual practice it is been going on for centuries in the Villages and Family houses of North Malbar, which is traditionally performed by certain casts and family, who keeps the integrity of the ritual as it is.
It is very interesting and intriguing in so many aspects because, this ritual brakes all the preconception of contemporary human psyche and belief system.
When the Chenda (Musical instrument) beats start getting to its peak and "Theyyam" gets to his trance state and start jumping in to the fire and come back without even getting burnt much.
"There can be no doubt", say Bridget and Raymond Alchin, "that a very large part of this modern folk religion is extremely ancient and contains traits which originated during the earliest periods of Neolithic, Chalcolithic settlement and expression" mainly there is no doubt, giving from fremin.
