Hey steemians, it's Holi today. One of the much awaited festival of the year. Faces covered in rainbow shades and people drenched in coloured waters are a common sight here in India today. Schools and offices are shut down to let people enjoy themselves to the core. If you are one of those who hates getting dirty then this festival is not for you.
Holi is celebrated to express love and the history of this festival dates back to the times of Radha and Lord Krishna. This is one festival that attracts people following other religions apart from Hinduism.
Here are few Holi pictures that I happened to click when I was out today
Originally this festival is celebrated with organic colours that are made from fresh flowers and leaves, but thanks to modernization people use chemical based colours that don't seem to fade after repeated washes and also causes skin and eye irritation.
Though this festival is celebrated to rejoice love, there are some perverts who consider it their rights to touch girls during this festival and it works in their advantage as you cannot recognize a face that is fully covered in different colours. Police stations in the country are full with complains of harrasment during this day.
However, perverts seem to have come up with new ways to trouble girls this Holi. In northern India, some college girls have complained about semen filled balloons hitting them instead of the regular water filled ones. I fail to understand what kind of adrenaline rush does these hooligans get by doing so. And how on Earth do they have so much time to make semen filled balloons. I wish they thought of something better that would earn them some money and in a way help their families too.
