Transgenders in India.

in #india7 years ago

Life of transgenders (third gender) in India is very difficult. People look down upon them as if they themselves are responsible for their being like that. People are scared of them and try to avoid them whenever they are near. They are disowned by their families and end up on streets. While some take up prostitution some get into begging with attitude.

I call it begging with attitude for they do it with such ease. They make you feel as if you owe them money. They show up at weddings, naming ceremony and birthdays demanding a certain sum of money without which they don't seem to leave the place and if you don't give in to their demands you'll end up getting cursed with everything that you can ever think of.

People back in India believe that a transgenders curse would actually make a difference to their life. It is sad that educated people think like that and this has made way for transgenders to see it as a good business opportunity. There are innumerable transgenders in India and I don't say all are thugs, but most of them are. There are certain educated transgenders who are working on changing the conditions of their community.

The ease with which transgenders seem to earn money has made many more non transgenders to get into the business. I am pretty sure that men dressed up as female can be seen in trains asking money and cursing people.

I understand how difficult it is to live like a transgender, but they don't have to scare people. They can find work and do that and earn respect in society like any other male or female. Being a transgender doesn't affect your working capacity, does it?
