Indie Authors Unite!

in #indie7 years ago

After years of training myself in the skills of a proper writer, so that I may be worthy of submitting my manuscript to a publisher, I finally realized that I don't have to. I don't have to go through the tedious process of submission, rejection, or no replies.
Although, what I have learned through this process is how to better my writing, how to submit queries, the basic formatting of professional emails, and most importantly - NEVER follow up! (It sucks, I know, but patience and accepting rejection are vital in this trade) - *side note: Always be willing to learn.
And as a South African, I wanted to break out of the national limits and go global...obviously.

So here is my call to writers!!!
Do not give into the stigma of self-publishing. The world has evolved because of trendsetters and people taking the road less traveled.
Do not be scared to put yourself out there! (I hear this a lot from writers) 'I am scared that I'm not good enough', 'I'm scared people will judge me'...so what?!
If you have something to say, say it! If you have a story that burns to be released from your soul, release it into the world and your soul will be better for it.

Indie is just short for independent. And is that not what we all ultimately want? Independence? (Correct me of I'm wrong, please)

So, I have self-published, and I am still trying to perfect my marketing and spread the word, while dealing with the challenges of real life...but I will get there.
Here is proof of my years of persistence, fearlessness, and creative insanity...

There is nothing better than to get complimented on your work. Hearing things like; "It has been weeks and I can't get your characters out of my head.", "I haven't believed in love for 20 years but you touched my heart and made me cry.", "I can't wait to read your book again.", "I have read your book 5 times."

All I really wanted to say with this post, is to not be afraid, and to support 'Indie Anything'!

If you are an Indie, please let me know why and what you are doing by commenting.

PS: I am also an Indie Filmmaker...but more on that later...
