Ikan sepat banyak terdapat di rawa-rawa dan kolam. Ikan ini mempunyai daya tahan tinggi sama halnya seperti lele.

Ikan sepat biasanya di olah dengan cara di asinkan, di olah dengan berbagai macam kuah termasuk ^gulee pliek (khas aceh).

Mempunyai cita rasa tinggi membuat ikan ini lezat untuk di santap terlebih di tempat yang sejuk dan memiliki panorama indah seperti sawah, sungai maupun pantai.

Biasanya masyarakat menangkap sendiri dengan menjaring atau memancing di rawa-rawa.

Ukurannya mulai dari yang terkecil hingga mencapai 1 kg, tergantung tempat habitat sepat tersebut.
