Jakarta - West Java International Airport (BIJB) located in Kertajati, Majalengka, West Java was officially opened by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) on Thursday, May 24, 2018. It was marked by the landing of Presidential Plan RI-1 which was greeted by water salute from two cars are on the left and right sides of the plane.
With the operation of this airport, located in Kertajati district, Majalengka became the second largest airport in Indonesia to shift the position of Kualanamu Airport in Medan. This means that the two largest airports in Indonesia are now located in Java Island, where the first position is occupied by Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Tangerang, Banten.
BIJB is built on an area of 1,800 ha. In the first phase of development, BIJB will operate a 3500 meter runway. The total area of the Passenger Terminal building itself is 121,000 meters2, which can accommodate 5 million passengers / year and will be able to accommodate 18 million passenger traffic in the next year. In the front cargo, 0.004 million tons have been handled in the first operation, overall cargo in BIJB will be expanded massively to reach 1.5 million tons by 2045.
If it is effectively operated, Kertajati Airport can serve flights to Denpasar, Surabaya, Ujung Pandang, Balikpapan, and Medan. In addition, the airport will also serve direct Haj flight to Saudi Arabia.
