No, they had been named something previously. Then with the COVID hype, they just change the description for the test kits across the board to the misnamed COVID test kit, making all present, past and future references to a test kit be described with the new description in the database. They recently corrected the description for the tests kits to "Medical Diagnostic Test instruments and apparatus", which is probably the same description it was before.
These are obvious blunders to not make, and should not have been made. When editing a database value, it applies to all descriptions for existing records. The item existed long before COVID, because the test kits existed long before COVID. It could be an accident, but I think it's an intentional change as a honey pot to get people to fabricate false conspiracies and then that can be pointed to as another instance to discredit someone.
This would be feasible and I would have come to that conclusion, if not for the fact that they are not using it to discredit anyone. Seems more like they want it swept under the rug.
