RE: UK Parliament Publishes Full 2002 UN Report On Sex For Aid In West Africa

in #informationwar7 years ago

The really sad part is, who can we trust to give aid to those in need? Although now it appears endemic amongst aid agencies, the alternative is?
All we can do is hope that these organisations and NGOs get some extremely secure and transparent accountability systems in place and bring an end to these disgusting practices.
It would also be nice to see people brought to account for their actions no matter how far back in time.

Sort:

Who can we trust? Absolutely no one. Zero.

So we must stand back and not do anything in someones darkest hour ?
Not everyone is bad.

No, but, there is literally no way to know who is and who isn't at this time, given Joel Davis's recent arrest and his position in "combatting sexual violence in conflict."

We need to tear the infrastructure down completely and rebuild with a new model, but I am simply a journalist and it is not in my power to do so. A global registry of aid workers might be a start, so that it becomes (hypothetically) impossible to shuffle abusers the way the Catholic Church shuffled pedophile priests.

So, in the meantime, I write honestly about the level of corruption infesting aid work in the same vein of those who have written about abusive priests.
