Poor Venezuela will likely never return to its former glory. The power brokers of the world despise socialism as it was evolving into a system that placed too much power into the hands of the people. This is probably the reason so much of the media points their fingers at socialism as the cause.
However, with el presidente Maduro at the head you have an oligarch who's only power now lies in the army. As long as the army remains fed and happy, Maduro will remain in power, China will continue gobbling up their oil, and the people have little chance of regaining their independence and security. Nearly 1/4 of their population has been displaced in the last few years (I've seen it myself in 15 hour lines at border crossings in Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru) and the ones that remain are so hungry and desperate that the fight is quickly leaving them. It's heartbreaking to say the least. I am no economist but I do know as long as countries like China are profiting from the turmoil the situation is quite hopeless for the Venezuelans. My friends in country tell me that secret networks are springing up everywhere to encourage internal bartering systems, communication, security from the military, and localised governance. But these measures are currently flimsy at best and put the participants constantly at risk of execution, disappearance, torture, and worse. During my time in Colombia last year I found that nearly 1/4 of taxi drivers (basically slaves) and and 40% of prostitutes (also slaves) are Venezuelans. Within the country communities are coming together in record numbers to share resources simply for survival sake.
Latin Americans have arguably suffered more than anyone the consequences of colonialism and conquest for the last 500 years. Starting with a Borgia pope, coup after coup, assassinations, Mass murders, corporate acquisition of virtually all of their natural resources and labor force (thanks to the white Satan Milton Friedman and his CIA backers) and now global sanctions and crooked politicians who only seek to control and oppress everyone for the sake of greed.
My impulse is to arm the people, organize them into guerilla units and start popping skulls. The problem is that once that starts it rarely ends well, and violence in and of itself is rarely the answer.
Perhaps a better solution is to simply organize the nation's oil suppliers, food producers, and water distributors into a cohesive unit that will supply the basic needs for the people in order that they themselves can rebuild their country however they wish.
I'm sure this is oversimplification of a very complex situation, but then simple solutions are usually the most effective.
What do yall think?
I'm just happy people like you take time to expose it! Most of the world (even if they do watch the news) will never even get to read writeups like this you know :) Good on you mate!
Dang. Thank you homie!
A country such rich in resources in such a bad place. It really is a shame. :(
Yes. And unfortunately it is not that much different from how the rest of the world could go until we as humans realize that we hold all the cards. We've had the wool pulled over our eyes for too long and are convinced we need rulers, police, and armies. Haven't we outgrown this Bullshit? I think so. But maybe I'm dead wrong. Maybe we're all sheep that need a Shepherd to keep us from the cliffs edge. Maybe, but I don't think so. Everywhere I've been and everyone I've met all want the same thing: peace. But it's up to us to demand it.
This serves as a pretty good example of why you never turn in your military grade rifles to socialists, especially government socialists.
I strongly believe in an armed population (for the time being) even though I am a staunch pacifist. But I would argue that socialism is not the problem. Government control is. No man has the right to rule another but when one group controls all the weapons, rights no longer matter.
So until the day comes when love trumps hatred and cooperation becomes the norm rather than competition an armed populace is a necessary evil to maintain liberty.
Socialism is endemic to social control.
The case could be made that if social objectivity could be in perfect consensus then it could be justified, but there is never a case of perfect consensus in social objectivity.
Therefore any action of socialism is not in consensus, and by it's existance, rule by force.
The only staunch pacifists are individualists, by this accord.
Man we all want peace. Them that don't are sociopaths. It's silly to try and squeeze people into boxes like socialism when perceptions vary like sand on the shore. I'm no defender of any system that places the rights of any person over another and maybe I'm an ignorant idealist, I readily admit that. But I sure as shit don't believe it's in human nature to rule over each other in any way. That must be a learned behavior and just like any other, can be unlearned.
I think maybe you and I want peace, now what that peace would look like is a question. I wouldn't say that we all want peace, as there are plenty who want rule by law, and want that law to aggress against people.
Maybe. I definitely can't speak for others. Maybe my desire for peace and freedom is so strong that I can't empathize with bootlickers and statists in the least. That's definitely possible.
I reckon as with most things peace looks different to each individual. And it's totally reasonable to think that for some that peace doesn't require freedom but instead quite the opposite. Why else would so many so readily accept the boot on their neck, in school, in their jobs, their relationships etc.
You raise some good points friend and I will definitely be pondering all you've presented me.
It's been a pleasure discussing it with you, look forward to more in the future.
