High potency cannabis, especially when used daily, is "strongly linked" to the risk of developing psychotic disorders such as schizophrenia and paranoia, scientists said Wednesday.
In Amsterdam and London—where high-THC marijuana has long been the rule rather than the exception—50 and 30 percent of new psychosis cases, respectively, were associated with potent
The findings, reported The Lancet, bolster a growing body of research connecting pot to a range of mental health disorders.
With piecemeal legalisation and decriminalisation, consumption in North America and Europe has increased markedly over the last two decades, even as levels of the drug's mind-bending molecule, delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), have risen four- or five-fold.
First off, I'm all for the legalization of marijuana and many other drugs. I think drug addiction is a serious problem and should be treated medically instead of arresting these folks for a crime. However, this news story is concerning to me and we made need some regulations on the potency of marijuana because it have been increasing dramatically over the last 10 years. A lot of older American that smoked marijuana 10, 20 or 30 years ago think smoking marijuana back then was no big deal but they have no clue the strength of marijuana being smoked today.

We all know that eating or drinking to much alcohol can lead to health problems, heck even to much Vitamin D is bad for you so it makes sense to me that a high percentage of THC in marijuana can lead to health problems. I'm not to familiar with the rules and regulations on marijuana in every state but I would hope that all states require legal marijuana stores to post the potency of their different kinds of marijuana and maybe even warn customers of the dangers of smoking a high potency plant can do to your health.
Like I said before I'm not against marijuana but people need to understand the risks and realise the marijuana today isn't the same marijuana you smoked years ago.

The plant literally changes how a brain functions. Lol Inducing large and random doses of dopamine in a long enough term CAN have an adverse effect.
Simple science.
Also, the plants are being effected by all these chemicals and supplements that are being used to grow plants. Over a period of time, changing the "original strain".
I can go on about the negative effects but I don't think that's necessary.

agree 100%
The Effect is the Same with Synthetic THC
The issue is mass THC usage, without the regulating effects of the other cannabinoids and terpenes.
I've watched more than one person get mildly psychotic with the wrong strain for their heads. The lower the CBD content, the worse the effect seems to be.
Stronger Cannabis? LOL No...
What you're seeing are strains with the CBD being bred out of their genetics. Cannabis hasn't become more potent, it's become significantly less medicinal. As breeders have chased this "ultimate THC %" as the holy grail of cannabis, the ability for the strains to cause psychosis increases.
A Little CBD Every Day Will Significantly Reduce/Eliminate
the effects of psychosis from high THC levels. It's not like it's causing a permanent situation, it's a temporary chemical imbalance is all. Give it time and you'll fully recover without any long term issues.
Yes, totally. The weed they smoke nowaday's is pretty strong. There's no balance with THC and CBD.
I was smoking heavily for years, and I could feel that I was getting more and more anxious and paranoid.

Well... Actually Cannabis strains grown in the pacific north west here... Alot are historic strains. Mazar I Sharif? That's thousands of years old...
And stronger? And more psychosis?
Yeah this study is garbage. Sorry seen way too many first hand people use this plant to heal.
But I'll vote and share!

This part says it all.
"While the correlation between marijuana use and mental disorders was strong, a cause-and-effect relationship can only be inferred, the authors cautioned."
Just ask Truthstreammedia: Minds of men how much we can trust psychiatrists.
