Inktober 2024, Day 22, 23, 24: Camp, Rust, Expedition

Nobody said this would be easy.

The past three days, I spiraled into a bit of a depression. There were a few things that prompted it. My sincere apologies for my late post. Mostly, I do not let the negative energy or negative things said to me get to me. But this time, it was a combination of - a lack of confidence, identifying a bunch of weaknesses, being extremely self-critical in general, something a family member said to me, and a few other observations and aspects that formed into a volatile mixture to take me out, and practically in tears.

I am better now. However, I am running on very little sleep while trying to catch up after being a complete mess. It is what it is. At least I did not throw in the towel.

And with that, there is only one week of Inktober left.

What did I cook up for this batch? Come on now! Scroll further down!

Day 22: Camp

Camp - Ink drawing, 21 x16 cm, Inktober 2024

The prompt day 22 was camp. My favorite thing about camping is sitting around a campfire. Not so much staying in the tent, maybe because I have not found a way to make it comfortable enough yet. However, I hope to hike more, so I have to figure it out eventually. But the campfire! I love to keep the fire going, clothes smelling like burnt ambers due to the smoke, and cooking on the fire is something else! I can stare at the flames of the campfire for hours. It has some meditative effects on me.

That is why the focal point I chose is the campfire, which is the only colorful element in this drawing.

The proof of progress.

I love how the treeline is marking the fourth edge of this drawing. It looks so cool, in my opinion. I am also pleased with how the play between the light and shadows came together. I think it is successful and effective.

I know some of you appreciate the close-ups of the details. Here you go! I also like to post my works from different angles. If you held them in real life, you probably moved them about and looked from multiple angles. It also shows how balanced the drawings are. While drawing, I often change the angles of my work to make sure it looks good from different perspectives. So, no. I am not shifting them around in circles without a purpose.

Day 23: Rust

Rust - Ink drawing, 21 x16cm, Inktober 2024

On day 23 - rust was the theme. Here, giving a second life to old items came to mind. I especially love all the old items people repurpose as planters. Maybe one day, when I own land, I will create a flower garden with strange planters like that! But for now, this old rusty bucket of lavender on the paper has to do!

I immediately knew which ink would be perfect for creating the rusty effects on the bucket. It is a fountain pen ink from Diamine called Autumn Oak. When I did the full Inktober last time, I made a mental note about this ink suiting nicely for something like it when combined with diluted jet-black ink.

It is a true rust magic! I love how realistic it looks! Right?! ^^

Day 24: Expedition

Expedition - Ink Drawing, 21 x 16cm, Inktober 2024

Dear Inktober! How many synonyms will the future prompt list contain? I thought I probably was the only grumpy cat who complained so much about the list. But then, Lem came up to me the other day and read a whole thread of other artists' reactions about it! I laughed so hard! Anyway, there will be more travel-related prompts even for the last seven days, but I decided to go with something less obvious for this one. It is an expedition, as in expediting something. We are expediting the turtle's speed by throwing the purple roller skates in the mix!

I ran out of my mixed media paper for the latest three works before the Expedition and needed to order more. I also ordered a new set of three Liquitex inks (Burnt Sienna, Burnt Umber, and Raw Sienna). I used them here, as well as some Faber-Castell mechanical pencils. Oh my! I love them! It is so easy to sketch with!

Eyyy! Another cute character joins my cute character club! She looks so cheerful, speeding along on her way!

On that note, I will head to the dreamland and then back to the drawing board, pun intended.

Hope you have a lovely day! See you in four days, hopefully!
