Trek - Ink drawing, 21 x 16 cm, Inktober 2024

I preface this post with - This is fanart, I used references (I, II) from Star Trek to draw the Enterprise.

I first saw Star Trek as a young teenager. I did not start immediately with the original series. Instead, my first experience with Star Trek was Star Trek: Enterprise. Those series began in 2001, and, as you can imagine, it looked a lot different than the original series, which first aired in 1966, according to Wiki. I then proceeded with Deep Space Nine, and I only then decided it was time to go way back to the start and watch the original series.

I remember the warning I received - Understand that it will look different from what you are used to. The papers are exiting from their computers, and their food looks like children’s building blocks or cubes. Ahaha! I mean, yeah! The series is old, but I was curious to learn about all the legendary characters such as Spock, Kirk, and others. And I did. I went in open-minded, and soon, I fell in love with the characters and their adventures through space.

Of course, the prompt trek had to be Star Trek!

I wanted to incorporate the Vulcan greeting - live long and prosper, as the background shape. It is my hand there! I traced my hand. It is now the space where the Enterprise is on the journey - to boldly go where no man has gone before! Yup! I then consulted with the references I mentioned above to draw the Enterprise and sprinkled the trek with stars all over my space hand.

It was fun! I enjoyed this exercise. I think it turned out pretty cool-looking altogether. It came to life as I added the details with the white jelly roll pen. It was like some strange space magic!

I have not watched all of Star Trek there is to watch. I still have not completed Voyager, The Next Generation, and Discovery. I have begun all three, and now I wonder if I should start over! xD It has been a while at this point.

Are there any Trekkies here on Hive?

And then there were six! Yay! ^^

but the only real star trek is TNG. this might be a controversial statement, though.

I can make a strong case for DS9 having some of the best writing, but the Picard era is arguably peak Trek.

🖖live long and prosper!

Live long and prosper, you too! 🖖^^

Oh not at all, some people have tried to make me watch it for years now. I believe when you say that it is the best, haha! I just have not come around to jump back into it. I am a binger when I want to be. I am currently rewatching the Expanse. I stopped in the middle when the Amazon took over, only now watching the whole thing again. Maybe after that I could go back to Star Trek.

It's gorgeous! Really cool. I me er got into Star Trek but I get it.

Thank you! It took me a while to get there too. I grew up watching Star Wars, Stargate, Battlestar Galactica, Farscape, and other sci-fi series and films. Each Star Trek has a bunch of seasons so that takes commitment too.

I grew up on V, Star Wars, Doctor Who. I wish I'd done Star Trek! Big sci Fi fan. Particularly books also... Arthur c Clarke, Heinlein, Asimov, le guin, plus a heap of others. Will glut on any sci Fi that comes out!

Why not tokenize it on NFTShowroom? Just sayin'

I made a couple of artworks for NFT showroom. Aren't they more geared towards digital art? Maybe things have changed? Hmm.

Hmm, I really don't know. I mean a photo of analog art is digital, no? 😜

Very nice! I remember my parents watching Star Trek: The Next Generation. I later watched re-runs of the original series and the subsequent series DS9, Voyager, and Enterprise. I haven't seen much post-Enterprise Trek though.

Very nice!

Thank you! :)

I haven't seen much post-Enterprise Trek though.

I watched the newer films and little bit of Discovery. I feel the newer stuff is more action based perhaps?

Star Trek is either at its best or at its worst when it tries to be philosophical and contemplative. Action is an easy way to tell a story while keeping people engaged. I think Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan was one of the best films when it came to blending storytelling with deeper themes and exciting effects sequences. Some of the best TNG episodes dealt more with big ideas than big setpieces, but some were painfully preachy, too. What I liked about DS9 was how it grappling with the conflict between Federation ideals and the practical problems of frontier life and war. Voyager sometimes felt more like just monster-of-the-week with technobabble.
