Single Prompt Option - The Weekend Freewrite - 8/8/2020 | LION KING

in #inkwell4 years ago (edited)

Its been months since the release of lion king(photorealistic computer-animated remake) and finally my siblings (Temitope, Abayomi, Feranmi) and I made quite the effort to see this much talked about remake.

We settled down on the couches with a jar of salty peanut butter and a loaf of bread. While we were at it, Feranmi argued about the realness of the cats...
Feranmi:

This movie is over hyped jare.
Its no different than the 2D cartooned version of yesteryears.

Abayomi:

I know you'd definitely come up with something to downplay the efforts and ruin my childhood obsession brought into life. Why can't you just enjoy a movie like every normal person?

Feranmi

Critics play a bigger role in the world as we see it today. Without critics man would have scarcely progressed from the stone age but look where we are today.
All thanks to critic.
Abayomi:
So you're a critic now?

Temitope:

Maybe true about playing a vital role in improvement of man's life and his environment but critics are the most unproductive, bittered and uncultured sets of people.
From their bellies of bitterness they render their services of criticism not to add value nor seek out genuine improvement but to mock a the product of hardwork.

Feranmi:

Wow bro, why so uptight?

Abayomi:

Nothing but fact.
And why do y'all talk without doing nothing?
Haven't heard one thing invented by a critic before

Feranmi knew the combination of his two siblings against him was not one he win easily so he turned to me...
Feranmi:

Egbon mi, what's your view bout the facial countenance of the characters.

(Egbon mi means my Senior/Elder)
Referring to me, I knew better than to be his ally else we'd start a full blown argument, one I barely had strength for.
Me:

Firstly it is true that this is not the same as our childhood 2D representation because we're seeing it now not with a mind of childish fascination. You know all the suspense and awe we had as young minds viewing a talking monkey.

Feranmi:
(turning to his opponents)

You see what I'm talking about?

Me:

It would be fair to say the characters were well captured in real life with the sand dusts and flurry furs we might actually think pride rock was a place of liberal existence for the animal kingdom that one could board a plane in an airport to and Simba at the helm of affairs even though tutelage in the institution of royalty was short leaved. However, they couldn't quite capture the facial emotional traits for the lions.
Caught by the hyenas when wandered into their den in the elephant graveyards, Simba didn't look quite scared as he did in the 2D pictures. Scar scored the most with an intimidating presence just like the he did in the cartoon. And thanks to Pumba and Timon who really added the flakes to the claws and teeth.

Abayomi:

C'mon bruv, give Beyonce some credits she did a good job as Nala.

Feranmi:

They all did good, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Beyonce Knowles And Donald Glover.

Temitope:

Don't forget the man with the legendary voice James Earl Jones.

Abayomi:

All hail King Muphasa!!!

Feranmi:

I'd still go for my childhood cartoon in 2D any day.

Abayomi:

Yep, that's what children do.
Revel in childhood.

Temitope:

Guys!!!
Its the weekend in case y'all don't remember.
The champions League is about to start.

Me:

Yes please, can we move from pride rock to Camp Nou?
Napoli is eagerly waiting to be trashed.

I took the remote control from the palm of Feranmi and flipped the channel.
