Too Much Concern Over “Dust Votes” Is Hurting The Feed

ALL UPVOTES COUNT!
This is an extension of a thread I posted earlier touching on the importance of upvotes for cosmetic purposes, especially during onboarding initiatives. If your vote value results in a “dust vote”, now isn’t the time to be concerned about not receiving a minuscule amount of HIVE or LEO rewards thru curation. We are in the middle of a huge onboarding initiative at the moment so we need upvotes to be spread around for cosmetic reasons more than anything else.

If I’m a new user and I see a ton of posts that have comments but no votes, I would be confused, and maybe deterred.
The whole “dust vote” conversation has been turned into a “voting strategy” instead of something to just be knowledgeable of when curating.

I’ve said this before, it should feel weird leaving a positive comment and not an upvote. If you’re that concerned about losing rewards just make a small % vote, even 1%, so you don’t lose much voting power…problem solved.

The social currency of an upvote is just as important as the monetary value, even more so today because of the initiatives.

Some late nights, early mornings I scroll the threads and shorts feed just to find a bunch of post without upvotes. How is this possible when people are posting? If you’re posting you should at least be upvoting other content that uses the new features we are collectively trying to promote.

Seeing a # of comments under a post means absolutely nothing to a new user who is scrolling the feed if it ain't no "thumbs up" going on. We are psychologically programmed from years of social media to see likes as a form of validity, whether you think it’s right or wrong doesn’t matter…it is fact.

Good insight! It’s easy to forget how much a small upvote can encourage others. I like the point of the human psychology, really makes sense.

Thanks for putting this in perspective, and in a timely moment.

This is an interesting observation -- bumped your upvotes to 100 just because! As someone who was born at the beginning of the personal computing age, my brain predates this "wiring" just a little, but I also don't worry about dust votes -- if I like your stuff, I'm upvoting it, no matter my vote weight at the time.

Gratitude 🙏🏾. Yea I had to step outside myself to put that in perspective. Fortunate my brain predates some of that programming also.
