One thing about having property is, well, you have to manage it. It's been a while since some of these back trails were hiked, at least since the end of last deer season. So being it was a beautiful morning, I decided to strap on the boots and take off with my fuzzy faced self into the back part of the property. Yes, I know, it's time for a haircut, because I am starting to look like Santa Dude, lol.
The first trail I hit was the one that goes almost straight up the mountain which is where my main hunting spot is. I didn't get 50 yards up that part of the trail until I ran across a downed tree in the road. One thing is that we have a couple of roads that were cut primarily to allow fire fighters the ability to get up here in case of a forrest fire. It has happened before and is actually how this road came to be.
Anyway, I walked around the tree and continued on up the trail, moving a bunch of downed branches along the way. Once I got up to my spot, I was actually impressed that this old hand-me-down hunting shelter was still standing, lol. The tarp I put on it last year was what basically saved it, lol.
I hung out here for a while, taking in the nature around me and just listening to all the little life that was happening all around me. It's like you can hear the wildlife communicating with each other letting everyone know that I am in the woods, lol. While here, I was looking for signs of deer, and man, there were tracks, and I mean fresh tracks, all around me. That means I have meat coming down the mountain! LOL. So as soon as hunting season starts, this Dude is going to be trying to put some of that meat in the freezer!
Anyway, I went back down the mountain and got back down the trail fork and had to make a decision. Do I keep going? Or do I call it a day? Nah... Let's keep going!
From here, I walked and was checking out an overview of some bottom areas that we are planning to clean up and turn into a campground of sorts. Maybe build some yurts or something and cut some nice hiking trails that connect with the bigger ones. That's one of the long term plans at least. No pictures of that though... But I trudged on to one of my favorite spots where I plan on making a little camping/gun-range/dudely-activity area. And again, this place needs some work too. All these pine saplings need to come down...
This spot used to be a great hunting spot, but it has become more of a pass-through road for everyone, it's not great for hunting anymore, so I am going to turn it into my own little fun spot, lol. Hey, with my home situation, I need a get-a-way spot of my own. I came up here last fall/winter and tried to cut some down with a machete, but yeah, I ended up with a wrenched up elbow that still hurts, lol. So at the end of hunting season, I will have some equipment that can help me get the job done! So I will be patient until then, lol.
Anyway, owning property is not always for the faint of heart, or low-budgeted folks, lol. It's not cheap or easy to maintain this kind of thing. Curbing nature to our will takes a lot of work and resources, but my dudes, all I can say is that it is worth it, and I am blessed to have this little slice of heaven to be able to call home!
