When it comes to eating and drinking healthy, we often think that we already know what to do, most people don’t need to be told that they should eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, for instance, and avoid foods that are high in fats, sugars, and calories. Many foods have an aura of healthiness through wholesome-sounding names or derivation from a nation renowned for its healthy cuisine, but in fact are surprisingly unhealthy.
We’ve been led to believe that many foods out there are nutritious, when in fact they’re downright awful for us, below are some of these surprisingly unhealthy foods.
Banana and plantain chips: “Some people just love crunching on crisp, salty chips, fried chips are fried chips, whether they’re made of potato, banana or the less-sweet banana relative plantain and many of these chips have sugar and salt added, not to mention a high-fat content”.
Juice: “Juice is not nearly as nutritious as you may think, it’s largely because all of the fibre that makes fruit so beneficial gets lost when it’s in juice form, juice is low in protein and high in sugar. If you want to drink something, just guzzle some water”.
Fruit smoothies: “Just because fruit smoothies are full of fruit doesn’t necessarily mean that they’re healthy; they’re still packed with plenty of calories and sugar that don’t actually fill you up”.
