One sunny day you are walking along an unfamiliar path. It leads you through beautiful meadows, dark forests and craggy mountains. You hear a soft, murmuring sound ahead. What is it? As you walk closer, the sound gets louder, you sense and smell something intriguing in the air. The ground becomes damp and around the next bend you see a flash of water. A river!
As you reach the banks of this river you can see it’s moving pretty quickly. Can’t really tell how deep it is. You look up and down the bank, perhaps there is another path, a way around it. Hmm, no, your path has led you to this river and here it seems to end.
Wait! Across the river is the faint beginnings of another path. All is not lost! All you have to do is cross this river and you can continue on your path!
The water is cold, but not freezing. The first steps are chilling, but you carefully move ahead. The force of the water gets stronger. You move cautiously, one careful step after another.
Oh no! The water is getting deeper, the current stronger. Almost to the middle now, don’t panic! Then you stumble, you fall into the water, it carries you a few yards before you regain your footing. You try walking upstream - impossible! Okay, you’ll just get to the other side and then go back upstream. That’s all you can think of - just get to the other side and all will be well.
A log floats by, closely missing you, but you lose your balance and fall again. This time you are carried several hundred feet. Before you can touch bottom - here comes another log! This time you reach for it and hold on tight. You are so tired, but at least you are still alive!
You stop struggling and notice that you are being gently carried along with the force of the water. The river widens.. Where will the river take you? How will you ever get back?
You can’t do anything but hold on now, and see where you will end up. The river widens again and moves more smoothly. You have time to look around a little. It is so beautiful! This isn’t so bad, really.
You start to smell the salt air - the ocean. The Mother of Life, the Holder of Secrets unimaginable, pulling you towards Her. Finally, you are there, and off to one side you see - a safe harbor.
When the energy of change crosses your path, your normal, predictable life, with all of its comfortable limits, is suddenly gone. What remains is adventure. Step into it - go willingly and it will sustain you. Let it take you beyond your limits.

Good writing and good lesson. You can't fight against the stream forever...
This was based on a bumper sticker I saw once - Don't Push the River. Plus falling in a river and being swept downstream for a scary long time! (Which probably wasn't all that long but still scary!)
Beautiful metaphor. <3
Thank you!
