I am currently reading a book, The Seat of the Soul, that has really gotten me thinking more and more about humanity, our evolution and the impact we as individuals make on our collective world. Bringing to light many of the thoughts I’ve always had about karma and the basic fact that we are all, in some way or another connected. That what one person does effects the whole, no matter how microscopically. It puts attention on the existence of our intuition, our guiding force, our sixth sense.
I am constantly going on and on about connections to earth. Of the vibrations each of us have the opportunity to pick up on. Whether we feel them and disregard them has a fluke or whether we address them, believe in them, contemplate them and use them as a tool to guide us in the right direction. Of our choice to either heal or add to the suffering. This book speaks to all of that and more.
This book speaks to the belief of reincarnation, the souls journey to authentic empowerment and the lessons each soul must learn before in no longer incarnates on earth but goes on to the next dimension. I personally do not know how much of that I believe, but I do find it an interesting outlook on the human experience. The author would have us believe that although we should still feel compassion for the man who must sleep outdoors in an ally way and beg for money each day, that we should also recognize that somewhere in his soul, there is an aspect that is learning from this particular experience. That it could be his karmic debt from a previous life to learn from humility and struggle. That it is in that mans experience in this lifetime which will evolve his soul in the next if he is able to learn from his struggles.
The author separates the “personality” from the “soul.” Saying that a truly authentic person, is a person whose personality aligns with its soul. A person who can see the broken parts of its personality: jealousy, anger, greed etc..., and try to find the root of where it comes from and overcome those thoughts, feelings and actions. A person who is not afraid to recognize within themselves their own destructive patterns and consciously try’s to defeat that which lies within themselves. Therefore aligning the “personality” with the “soul” by healing the broken aspects of itself through recognition of this aspect and overcoming those urges.
I believe and have always believed the only way to diminish acts of violence and hatred is with more acts of compassion and love. When someone cuts you down with their words, they add to the negative karma of the world, and although when someone does that most of our first reactions as humans is usually to return the attacking. This though now only adds even more negative karma to our world. It is felt by the whole on this smaller scale as well as being felt on a larger scale when it comes to race against race. Nation against nation. Family vs family. It spreads like a disease.
Every day I set out to add more light into a world that at times, especially when I sit down to watch the news, seems only filled with a darkness. I can see in myself characteristics that at times want to come out that are ugly and without compassion. Yet, I take these moments now as a time to learn, a time to grow. A time to choose to be the better version of myself and let go of the jealous, mistrusting side of myself.
I write about this only in hopes to shed some light on an area I feel many people haven’t even thought of. Just a different way of viewing life, not only yours but all those around you. Of humans, plants, animals, the oceans, rivers and seas... to speak to how true the survival of our being is related to all other beings. We all coexist here on Earth and without one dynamic the other ceases to exist. We are at a scary point in our world. One where the threat of he extinction of coral reef is real. The one where, day in and day species are going into extinction never to grace our plant again. Where the threat of nuclear warfare is all but ominous upon us all. The change stats individually and progresses to the whole. If there’s even a chance by becoming a person who lives with more reverence towards all walks of life could help stop the negative domino effect we are sitting back and watching, why wouldn’t we?
Here is one specific exert I found profound in my readings and hope it can speak to some of you the way it did to me.
