21-year-old John Cronin of Long Island is the co-founder of a million dollar business called "Johns Crazy Socks," but his story is more than just your average tale of success.
John was born with Down Syndrome, so he has had many obstacles in his life that most people do not have to deal with or even think about. John has always loved flashy and interesting socks, so when it was time to leave high school and figure out what he wanted to do with his life, he decided that he wanted to start a business with his dad, and have that business center around his favorite thing, socks.
According to the Today show, "they launched on December 9, 2016 and felt stunned by the overwhelming response. They quickly sold out and Cronin had to go to local stores to buy Christmas socks to keep the warehouse stocked for the first holiday season. "
In the first year along, they shipped 42,000 orders socks and made over $1.7 million.
“John is a role model. We want to show what’s possible,” John's father Mark said.
The company also gives back to the community, by donating a portion of their income to charities, and hiring people with mental disabilities.
“We hire people with disabilities. (It shows) here’s what people with disabilities can do if you give them a chance,” Mark said.
John says that he wants to be an example for others.
“It is possible. I have Down syndrome and it never holds me back,” John said.

No more needs to be said.

Very inspirational post!
wonderful story.
I always liked the term "handy-capable" over "handy-capped". I'm going to get some of Johns Crazy Socks.
I volunteer with a 20 year old who has autism and he is an awesome person. He is capable of doing more than simple jobs and wants to have a normal life. I have noticed that the more I treat him like a normal person the more he grows emotionally and responsibly. I believe we need to change our attitudes towards people with disabilities and provide them with good jobs. I encourage any one who has a job for 5 people to hire a person with a disability as an extra hand. the reason I say "an extra hand" is because if one day that person is struggling to produce as much as they usually do then the company isn't hurting.
