Habit
Samuel Johnson (18 September 1709 [O.S. 7 September] – 13 December 1784), often referred to as Dr. Johnson, was an English writer who made lasting contributions to English literature as a poet, essayist, moralist, literary critic, biographer, editor and lexicographer. Johnson was a devout Anglican and committed Tory, and is described by the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography as "arguably the most distinguished man of letters in English history". He is the subject of perhaps the most famous biography in English literature, namely The Life of Samuel Johnson by James Boswell.

I don't know a lot about this guy actually.
I really love this quote though.
"The chains of habit are too weak to be felt until they are too strong to be broken.".
This is really a great statement.
Habits have a way of sneaking up on us in the beginning.
Especially ones we do not plan like bad habits.
Source
Usually we start by just enjoying something.
Then we do it again and again and before we know it we have a habit formed.
Habit is a strong key to success as much as it can be for failure.
Actually, when a person is considered a "failure" they have actually succeeded.
They have succeeded at all the things they were doing that were not good for them.
They have done so through forming habits that led them there.
The same can be said for wild successes.
Source
They formed habits as well that led them to their success.
The truth is we all have habits.
Some good for us and some not.
The trick to really succeeding is to create more habits that will help to progress you toward your goals and less that will not progress you toward your goals.
So how do we create good habits?
Through spaced repetition.
Source
You start doing something that will help you, then continue to do that thing on a regular basis at regular intervals.
For instance you may do something daily or weekly, you might do it upon waking and before bed, or even before or after meals.
The trick is to keep that regular interval and not waiver.
After doing it 30 or so times you will have started reinforcing the habit.
Before you know it you will be doing that thing without even thinking about it.
This is when you know the habit is there and strong.
At first it will be very easy to just not do it.
Eventually it will be very hard to stop doing it.
The conscious mind can only focus on so much of life at once before it is full.
Souorce
If we are consistently building new good habits, the old bad ones have a tendency to slip away.
When the good habits we are creating are taking up enough of our focus there simply is not room for the other ones.
This is one of the easiest ways to rid ourselves of bad habits.
This allows us to get away from them without fighting them.
When our good habits are strong enough that they are very hard to break we have finally won over the bad ones that we have left behind.
So use habits to your benefit by making the choice which habits to have.
Start one new one at a time so you can show yourself how true this all is.
Understanding and mastering habits is vital to your success.
Remember,
"The chains of habit are too weak to be felt until they are too strong to be broken.".

Humans are beings of habit. Habit it's not always bad as it works in many cases for our good. An other quote I like is..."habit is a good servant, but a bad master "
Great quote, who is it?
Yes agreed. Habits can be a killer if they are bad.
And if they are good can make all the difference
I love your post, nice @michaeldavid
Thanks @sandra12!
Oh ya! This is a good quote. We all can get into a routine that we later struggle changing.
I am currently working on a few of my habits ;)
Nice! What is great is when the good ones are so hard to break :)
I gave up cigarettes. That was really the only bad habit I have. I look forward to your posts as I know many others do aswell. Have you ever missed a day, what will we do without our daily inspiration? Haha Do u do motivational speaking aswell?
I have not missed a day 🚀
I have been very close though.
I have done motivational speaking one time and I love it. Got a great response!
Great article. I think successful people know how to make good, useful acts habitual. While, most people feel constrained by their habits.
There is a similar conversation about other intangibles - "change"; "time".
We all have 24hrs. Why are some people able to get above/control time and get a lot done. While others fall victim to fleeting time?
Why do some people prepare in anticipation of change? While others are always stuck reacting to change?
Perhaps, success is the result of knowing how to deal with intangibles. Instead of react to them.
It really is all about acting instead of reacting you are right. We must choose what we are doing not just fall into it.
This is amazing
Found you on facebook
Thanks @jeaniepearl!
I'm really glad you liked it!
Interesting
thanks
Interesting ,I just wrote about being consistent. Even bad habits are formed the right way. The key is DAILY work. Doing a little each day. An apple a day keeps the Dr. away, not 7 apples on Sunday. ;)
bad habits are formed the right way. you are right, the key is daily effort!
Yes. Yes. And Yes
Perfect response!
Excellent @michaeldavid. I was a Hypnotherapist and NLP practitioner and trainer for many years. My specialty was helping people to stop smoking. I also used the Emotional Freedom Technique with my clients. It is easy and really gives them a tool to help themselves. You can find info on it here https://emofree.com/ I had a lot of great training in psychology and energy medicine and hyponotherapy. If you can keep up a new habit for 21 days, you have a great shot of changing. I think I will write a post about this! LOL. Upvoted your post and resteemed. Sending you a HUG.
Oh, and I retweeted your post about this article from your twitter account.
Don't know how my replies are being missed in my feed...
Just found this one.
Awesome!!
I'm studying NLP myself right now. I've read a few of Grinders books and Tony's.
EFT is huge! I'm a big fan I have only been introduced. I want to learn that in full!
Thanks for the hug! Sending one back!

Always just keep going is the key. You know what they say it takes 21 days to form a habit. Double it!
That's it, just keep it up and soon you wont be able to stop!
Good post my friend @michaeldavid
