“The only thing standing between you and your goal is the bullshit story you keep telling yourself as to why you can’t achieve it.” Jordan Belfort
Do you wake up every morning thinking that this is the day you break through and make this big change in your life? But as the day goes, your plan doesn’t match your action, and you tell yourself again that tomorrow is going to be the day. What is stopping you from making a change and taking your life to the next level?
It seems to me like a mental epidemic which is spreading around. We know what is right for us, we know what we should do and what to change, but when it comes to actually taking action, we do the complete opposite. At the end of the day, we feel miserable and frustrated.
I have for you 2 good news. First, you are in control. Second, you can totally change it. I've discovered that most of the time we don't what is "right" for us because there are some mental blocks which keep us in the back. Sometimes they are so deep, it's difficult to even spot them. Things like fear, lack of belief in ourselves, negative perspective on life. All these things are real and almost everyone reading this right now have dealt with them at least once.
Here are a few things I do in my life to break through when I feel that something is holding me back. I hope you find them useful.
1# Find the cause
The mental block is, well, mental. What is preventing you from going in the direction you want isn’t completely real. There isn’t anyone holding you back because it is all happening in your mind and that’s critical to understand.
Many people don’t take action since they lack belief. Maybe they were always poor, and they believe that they are meant to be poor. Maybe they never excel in anything at school, and they believe they are mediocre and never reach higher than that.
Self-belief can make or break your future because every single idea starts with a thought. For you to move forward and use the right strategy, you need to find the cause. What is stopping you from taking action? Is there anything from your past preventing you from making a change? If you don't fully believe in your ability, why do you think that is?
2# Work on the plan
Once you know what is holding you back, design the plan and find some practical ways how to deal with it. Remember that if you haven’t believed in yourself for many years, it takes some real work to change your mindset and push you to act.
Let’s say you never had a lot of money, but you desire to be wealthy. That's a common problem for many of us myself included. One of the things you can do is to buy an excellent book about investing or how money works. One of those books is “Money Master the Game” from Tony Robbins which is an absolute killer. Second, you can try to invest with very little money as a start. This is only an example of what you can do and what action you can take towards the particular problem.
Learn more about things you feel you struggle with. Whatever caused you those mental blocks can be broken if you learn about it and work on it.
3# Use your vision to see big
Another way how you can break your mental blocks is seeing the bigger picture. Many of us focus on what is today. We see our present financial situation; we see our problems in relationships, or we see the job we don’t like. This mindset creates mental blocks itself.
We all need to have hope and faith that things will work out. How can you ever get out of it if you don’t see the bigger picture of your future? Always visualize and feel what you want. You deserve to dream big. Combine your action with your vision and somewhere there, along the way, you will break through and find the true potential lying within you.
4# Destroy your fears
Another factor in creating your mental limits is fear. You can fear failure, embarrassment or criticism.
Don’t get me wrong, we all fear something. A person who isn’t afraid of anything is a dead person. The real challenge comes when you need to overcome this fear. If you always bow your head down and let the fear overtake you, you are creating a FALSE belief that you don’t have what it takes to break through.
So the question is "How to make the fear of moving forward smaller than the fear of staying at the place in your life you dislike?" Fear is real only to the point you allow it. Did you know that you experienced the same adrenaline when you feel fear and excitement? It is the same feeling in your body, but the difference is in how your mind explains it.
One of the tools I am using to fight my fears is through the pain. I visualize everything I can lose if I don't take action. I also visualize myself being in the same place 5 years from now and what it feels like. That scares the heck out of me. Motivation by pleasure is also good but for some reason, pain works a bit better for me.
5# Stay committed to this process
The last thing I want to tell you is to remain committed to this process and don’t get discouraged when you slip or fail. You’ve been caring some of your disempowering beliefs or mental limits for years, so it is understandable that you need time. The great thing is that you are reading this, you desire the change, and that is a positive sign.
Training your mind and becoming limitless is a tough job. But the truth is that if you don’t take charge, circumstances will control you and you have to take what is served, whether you like it or not.
