Pros & Cons… for using social media on Tor network.
Most of the social networks on Tor require you to enable Javascript in your browser to function. And if you don’t you might not be able to even access the site. Once javascript is enabled (white listing), It create a distinct browser fingerprint, which is one of the things Tor was designed to reduce. Also, you run the risk of making yourself vulnerable to Java/Javascript exploits that would normally be blocked by the NoScript extension. If the point of Tor is anonymity, then becoming involved in Tor social networks kind of defeats the purpose.
Also these social networks can be scams, in and of themselves. How, you ask? For example Blackbook and many other markets on Tor advertise services such as carding and drug sales. Regrettably, there is no reliable way to know what is a scam and what isn’t, which is why you should not buy anything on these sites because if you do you will not get your money back because you will be making a payment using Bitcoin which can’t be refunded or claimed back, and you will not be able to track the seller as they are all anonymous.
That being said, if you’re willing to take the risk by choosing to use these social networks then go ahead. Just keep in mind: If it sounds too good to be true, it definitely is.
Child Pornography
Child pornography is all over the dark net and it’s not one of those things we are proud of, but it happens and there are a lot of child porn being traded on the dark web, this is a part you are advised to avoid as it is not a comfortable sight.
Drug
The deep web is a haven for all of this which a very valid reason why you should be careful and avoid being influenced by all of this.
Weapon Trading and Hit-men for hire
In the dark web anyone can buy weapons and hire hit-man which are also some of the cons and illegal vices going on in the deep web anonymously.
The Pros
Freedom of Speech
Freely express your opinion on any topic such as politics or religion without fearing persecution that most countries take for granted. Overcoming censorship is another really positive feature that deep net has allowed.
Knowledge
The deep web stores the largest virtual libraries you could imagine. It is a great space for researchers and students since they can find in the deep net a lot more than what they can find on the standard search engines. Scientific findings that have not made public and could influence health and social beliefs of large populations, Literature from all ways of thinking that you will not find in the book storefronts are also stored in the deep web.
