When it comes to technology, the United States infrastructure lags way behind.
The country that has Facebook, Apple, Google, and Microsoft ranks far down the list when it comes to 4G and Broadband download speed according to Statista.
The United States does place well in the 4G availability rankings. U.S. mobile users are on 4G 90% of the time, ranking 5th in the world.
This shows that companies focused on building out their networks as compared to investing in higher speed equipment.
Good info. Thanks very much
This is a very misleading statistic because it doesn't take into account population density. It takes a lot of money to cover the entire United States in cell coverage. I would guess that around half of the US population lives in more rural areas. Those people will drag the average down.
And I thought nothing can surprise me. Not that we are not in top 10, but being even behind Macedonia? I hope our president does what he promised to do. $1.5 trillion infrastructure spending bill. I just hope it passes. With all the debt trouble why not increase it even more, it just can’t get any worse. Thanks for you post, it’s alway very informative.
Yeah, this surprised me as well!
Not sure if anything can be done about the debt trouble anymore though...
of course Macedonia is less than 10,000 square miles an the US is 3.8 million.
Based on my experience I’m not surprised that 4G LTE networks in America is soo behind. Even though as painfully slow It is I hope in some way it gets better. There are already talks about 5G network. As a matter of fact U.S. Government considering creation of nationwide 5G Network which could definitely improve our rank in the world. The United States federal government is said to be looking to build a “centralized” 5G wireless network across the country within the next three years.
See how painfully slow 4G LTE is in the U.S. compared to the rest of the world
@zerohedge..bro This is an old principal. Many second world states had nearly zero telecom (copper/pots) coming out of communism and their first infrastructure expense was cell towers.
They didn’t have anything old to be backwards compatible with nor were they bringing costs forward related to obsolete but still expensive technology.Your argument does not hold water. Look at Canada for not densely populated and speed.
I live out in the sticks in Canada and my home internet is 175mbps. Just tested cell speed at 91.3mbps. OK there is a tower I can see out my front window..thank you for sharing with us..
That's an interesting fact considering we're always touted as being leaders in technology.
@Zer0hedge, Whatever measurements they are using here are completely wrong.
My friend says, I moved a few months ago from LA, USA to Wellington, NZ and the reception and internet here is awful.
Some of my friends still are having issues connecting internet in their new rentals, and its been months.
Fios with very limited areas. Cellphone service black outs in areas.
Whoever wrote this article needs to crunch those numbers again. lol
But logically folks, USA, worse then a fairly small island like NZ North Island??? don't be so gullible on these articles.
ZH step it up, you're becoming a tabloid venue.
America's 4G Network getting ranked 62nd 'Best' In The World speaks for itself as users are always complaining of very slow download speed. 4G in the US is so slow compared what the consumers get in those countries that are ranked above it. This I believe is attributed to US networks getting a lot of traffic and yet they have to cover large geographic areas. It's a surprise having countries like Norway, Hungary ranking above US.. This shows how countries have chosen to prioritise building out mobile infratructure yet they had over the years been lagging behind the world on fixed internet structure.
nice post sir.
Oh, I definitely thought they would be at a higer rank. Can't believe it's at 62 when you take into consideration that they have Google, Facebook and so on...
Also, nice to see my contry at 15th place!
now days 4g very bad conation...
@zer0hedge... Great analysis work you showing here. Time of Global village Internet connection and speed (4G)is so important issues of development. Speed save time and time equal to money . it is amazing to me Singapore is top. And what the position of UK and USA is!rest of the world Internet speed and user of smartphone is poor although some countries take steps to generate. Thanks a lot for sharing such a exclusive report.
Haha, you gotta be kidding me.I sincerely doubt the result though. I wonder where Nigeria is on the list.
Excellent post, thanks for sharing
it is a matter of great shame that internet is so bad in USA.
It's really shocking that united states is that much behind in 4g network and Singapore is at number one woo,
India is also providing 4g services but i think it's somewhere more below in this list,
It's a really great piece of information bro and i really like these types of unique articles, thanks for sharing, keep it up.
How is that even possible, such a big and important country with such a low ranking in the 4G implemented network.
Even the UK, being placed so low surprises me, but what we can verify in the information is that Europe has a big presence in the Top 20 of countries with the fastest average 4G download speed.
Is this a technique that the US is using to stop illegal downloads? making them so slow that forces people not to make them. :D
Man that's atrocious... Obviously the wireless carriers don't care that much, they're here for profit.
Another thing that bothers me is why we aren't spending on infrastructure instead of military..
Seriously, why aren't we taking some of that money and rebuilding our infrastructure. It's not just our wireless networks that are falling behind, we have massive needs to update crumbling infrastructure in a variety of locations across the states. These are improvements that everyone could use to public buildings, roads, electrical systems, bridges, etc.
Priorities right? But why not just spend more on killing machines
if they hadn't shut it down I would still be happily using 2g, gosh I wonder why it's easier to cover Macedonia than the US?
Macedonia: 9,928 square miles
US: 3,8000,000 square miles
Well, there are many reasons ylthat may cause USA to have that rank and it can the geographic area.
In Africa, specifically in Uganda, 4G just reached 4 years back. Some people are excited to join it but scared since it chews phone data rapidly and Africa internet charges are always high.
This usually is a great opportunity for smaller countries like Bulgaria/Romania. They have one of the fastest and cheapest internet connections in the world and a lot of coutnries export services to these countries. Also I think there is no economic incentive to change this as labour is multiple times cheaper in these countries.
