If you wrote something humorous you might use the tag funny. If you click on home or new you will see a list of tags down the right-hand side this will give you a hint as to what tag fits your posts. Some people prefer to click on the tags and read all the posts that come under that category.
One rule of thumb. If you post a regular theme, let's say flowers, then always use the flowers tag that way people who look at that tag will see your stuff and hopefully follow or upvote you.
