Steemit, you're looking friendly today :)

Good afternoon, Steemit!

I am a 20-year old programmer, self-learner and artist, freshly exposed to the world of cryptocurrency and am constantly trying to learn and grow my knowledge about current and upcoming technologies. I've spent much of my teenagehood building video games from the ground up, and ran a few online communities before university took over.

Being a Junior persuing a degree in Computer Science, I feel that the world is already progressing ahead of most things taught in my classes. While markets grow and new technology blooms in a lively ecosystem of designers, builders, users and investors, we're stuck learning how computers worked back in the 1960s! Most ideas and approaches are automatically handled in our coding languages of choice now, and if there is anything to learn, we have access to this golden marbel known as the 'internet', instead classes and books costing thousands of dollars.

You could say though that university helps with one's work ethic, which I would agree to but only because of the constant pressure by our family, friends and world around us to not be a homeless worthless pile of trash. I've seen many of my friends being worn out and no longer seeing life as a fruitful, valuable thing anymore. They never make things for themselves; it's work for money, then use money to pay for rent, food, and the new Kendrick Lamar album or some video games, while the real dreams of owning their own pet store or a massive podcasting studio fade into the background.

So my life has recently been turned upside down in light of the realizations. My golden time so far was back before school took over, when I built and kept on building until my products were filled with care, excitement, and completion. Now I see that the real wealth doesn't come from having some system reign over a person their whole lives, my wealth is in what I build and how they affect the people that use them.

So what exactly have I built?

  • Ballland Battles, a set of arcade-style multiplayer battling games. The most successful one reached over 5000 plays.
  • Music using FL Studio and LMMS, which I may post samples of.
  • Ponyo, a chatbot that listens to you. It remembers things about you and tries its best to have a conversation.
  • BlockAI, a farm where little blocks program themselves to survive their environment.
  • Social Media bots which manage my accounts.
  • ...among many more discontinued projects.

And what am I pursuing now?

  • Cryptocurrency trading, which may be 50/50 luck and skill at this point.
  • Spanish, would love some help conversing in it.
  • Top secret project, which may be revealed soon ;)
  • Local friends, I live in Orlando!

Joining STEEMIT is symbolic for my investment into not only another step into the cryptocurrency movement, but into the future for us all. I look forward to speaking with you, exchanging ideas and building for the next generation of humanity.

Hola @atherz. Bienvenido a Steemit!

I am also learning Spanish, mostly by following Spanish speakers, reading their posts and trying to communicate in comments as best I can.

I'm also studying #programming, but not at University. I am focusing on #javascript and #VueJS right now.

I noticed you are using Manjaro Linux (saw the logo in the screenshot). I'm currently using Solus on my laptop and Ubuntu most everywhere else (desktops and servers).

Good to have you here!

Thank you so much! And haha, I try to have days where I communicate in spanish to friends. That doesn't get very far, but it's been getting better. And yes, I run Manjaro on two laptops and my desktop. I love it, and I'm glad to see another Linux user here so fast!

really great post thanks a lot for sharing and keep on posting ;)

What programming languages do you code with? I do a little bit of VB and PHP. Not a pro though. You're welcome to Steemit. I'm following you, You can follow me too

I program in C, C++, and HTML5/Javascript. Also dipped my hand into Java, C#, Python, GML, and a few more that I forgot about. Thanks for following :)
