Dear Steemit community,
Namaste and Adaab from India,
I find it so strange, when someone asks me to introduce myself, i draw a blank, i sit here scratching the edges of my receding (much before its time) hairline, wondering where to begin, what to say, and how to end. After much deliberation i have decided to simply let it flow, much like life, much like nature, much like the universe i so fondly surrender to.
My name is Azaan, by virtue of hobbies, talents and things that give me great joy, i can introduce myself as a writer, a poet, a musician and an artist.
But if i were to introduce myself as i would really like to, i would say, "Hi, i am human." I was born with two eye brows and a speech defect that lasted till the age of 5, and prompted unending fear in my mom, as she took me doctor to doctor trying to hear the words "don't worry it will be alright." All the while, i spoke in my own mix of hindi, english and gibberish, my word for my favourite fruit - grapes - being "gulele" and my favourite sentence "oye bal go", which meant i want to go out !
Thankfully by the age of 5 i had started speaking, and i think my soul must have had a lot to say, and very eloquently as well, since i now enjoy expressing myself mostly through ink and instruments, probing with words, experimenting with sounds and exploring the human mind.
The universe has been far too kind to me, i have a natural gift for instruments since a very young age, learning faster than most others i learnt with. I started learning the guitar when i was 12, writing my own songs when i was 13, and found myself on stage performing for an intimate crowd of about 50 people for the first time when i was 15. Then, it was the piano's turn to be tortured by my fingers, or carressed as i would like to call it, but the jury is still out on that.
I played basketball, i practiced 6-8 hours a day, i was an average academic student, performed with plenty of local bands during college, starting as a grunge singer in my baggies and overshirts covering pearl jam and stone temple pilots, and later in black suits playing blues and jazz standards.
I have also trained keenly in indian classical music, owing to my family lineage, and soon began to create my own tuning styles on the guitar, sometimes to emulate a sitar, sometimes simply to experiment with atonal sounds. Today, i play guitar, piano, classical hard, hang drums and about 6 other folk instruments, and also produce my own brand of experimental electronic music.
Enough said about me !
Today, i would like to thank my wonderfully talented artist friend for bringing me to a community like steem. I come hear in search of knowledge, in search of learning, in search of honest humans from around the world to draw inspiration from and hopefully to impart some sort of knowledge or entertainment, whatever i can provide with my own humble tools.
I shall be posting my own compositions on various instruments, posting the little art that i do as a hobby, mostly sacred geometry, and perhaps also my wild ramblings about my understanding of the universe, the human mind and the world as I know it.
I would love nothing more then to have wild debates, long conversations and maybe even intelligent arguments with every one of you, for we are all human, we are all forever learning, and as long as one can keep the ego aside, everything is welcome, harsh words, kind compliments, loving comments and most of all, interaction !!
