HI, YOU CAN CALL ME BERA AND RUN AWAY WITH ME (NOT LITERALLY THOUGH)

in #introduceyourself7 years ago (edited)

I’m a Turkish girl, teaching English to Spanish kids by Erasmus plus! There is nothing so original about me, except for;
• Rewarding myself by moving to Spain in the first day I turned 21.
• Smiling hugely and non-stop since my dental braces are out(Sadly this is kinda rare)
• Being extra.
• Having two Bachelor’s degree of four years at the age of 22. (English Language Teaching and International Relations)

I have lived and studied all my life in Istanbul, Turkey until the day I bought a one-way ticket to Spain.

Last day of internship with my best friends in Istanbul, another reason to be extra.

My real name is Rabia Beranur but since Rabia means “anger” in Spanish and I’m a teacher, I decided not to use it here. In Spanish, B and V sounds are almost the same so they find it really easy to call me Bera/Vera.

I’m living in Valencia now, the third biggest city of Spain. There are so many reasons why I chose this city to do my Erasmus plus (I will tell all about this program and Valencia later) but I can’t postpone to say that it is super beautiful and life here rocks, at least for me.

Yet, it is not always pink and butterflies. There are times when things get super difficult and overwhelming, especially when you can’t speak the language of the country you are in, paperwork is a mess, you can’t get so many friends, nothing is guaranteed and lack of security, feeling homesick from time to time. However, I still think taking risks in life and getting to know new cultures are worth it and I will try to share my ways to overcome these problems.

Still, Valencia or Spain is not my final destination. I don’t feel like I belong anywhere. In general, the mindset of people bother me, I get bored easily and I want to try the things that scare me most. Right now, I’m scared as hell from moving to a new country so it is going to be my next step. (Don’t ask, the next country is a surprise)

The other reason for me moving to other countries is to observe how different cultures and policies deal with life before being an entrepreneur one day who builds projects to improve society, not only economically but also by solving the “little” problems such as homeless people, violation at homes, refugees; you name it.

In this new blog, you will find:
My experiences and challenges as I move to new countries and learning to live like a local,
Information and heads-ups about the countries I live,
A journey with me as I try to understand myself and try to put my thoughts in words.
