Hello Steemit,
I'm Jason (left) and this is Colbert (right) from BitcoinMalaysia.com.
BitcoinMalaysia.com started out as a simple blog in 2012 that eventually grew to become the largest cryptocommunity platform in Malaysia over the years.
It was the first local platform for people to get information about Bitcoin, cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology. We organized many casual meetups, 'yum cha' and teh-tarik sessions where many passionate discussions took place about
- what is Bitcoin & blockchain technology
- what can it do for our daily lives
- how can society benefit from it
- how does other cryptocurrencies come into play
- what can we do to participate in it
2017 was definitely the year Bitcoin captured the attention of the world!
However, although there are more people who have "heard" about Bitcoin, we observed that 90% or even more of Malaysians within the crypto-space are only holding crypto coins/tokens for one reason... to exit and exit as fast as possible too.
This is not healthy for any crypto-related currency, asset or innovation in the long run.
What is needed is for more people to adopt and use cryptocurrencies, experience and enjoy the benefits it brings to their lives.
If people are only holding the tokens to exit and not enough people use them to experience its intended benefits, then it is what it is - the token is not useful. Or at least, in the eyes of the token holders.
When bad times come and they do come, it is likely they will dump the tokens in panic and the token might not survive - even if its a good one for society.
This will leave another unwarranted negative impression about cryptocurrencies and cause confusion to the general public and the local regulators - Is crypto good? Is crypto bad?
Our Mission
Our mission is to help Malaysia advance towards a mature cryptocurrency ecosystem.
Our key activities over the next few months include:
- Providing a 'newbie-friendly' place to learn about Bitcoin, cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology.
- Help connect people with resources that help advance the mission above.
- Spur actual adoption and use of cryptocurrencies and other blockchain innovations.
We want people to be excited about
- what new things can they "use" next and gain benefit from.
- what new jobs or careers opportunities are on the horizon for them.
- what new innovations can they come up with to solve problems and add value to society.
We have a line up of events ahead and are actually introducing STEEM in the next one.
