Hello from a Crypto Cat Dad and DIY Video Editor

I'm reaching out into the void today to share a bit about myself and why I'm on steemit.

I have been working with video and photo editing tools for about two decades. I recently began seriously freelancing online. I'm aware that the phrase "seriously freelancing" sounds a bit like an oxymoron, so I am trying very hard to not be lazy.

I have been making a lot more money at video editing lately. Yet, it's still not quite enough to be a fully sustainable business in the long term. And I'm ok with that!

The point right now is to build the infrastructure for what my business needs to be in the near future. My goal is to be able to make enough money in the year of 2020 to be able to afford my own place. If I can reach that goal, I will start looking for places to move. If not, I will need to rethink my business. Either way, I have my heart and mind set on being self employed.

So, in the time leading up to 2020, I will be focusing on workflow, portfolio, website, and client-acquiring. I will probably build a better mainboard for my PC as well, that's really hard to not want when I'm getting some work in 4K and still using a 7 year old CPU.

Steemit just might be something that becomes part of my workflow. It seems like a very weird and new thing that not many people use, but it also seems to have some potential. I see a few posts that get into the hundreds of dollars in value, and I read that a lot of that has to do with the fact that they invest steem power into the post, which boosts it up to the top. So, the return on investment is almost certainly going to be less than the number we see. Still, the concept actually seems to make sense if you like crypto. And I like crypto! I mean the concept makes sense even if you don't like crypto.

You make a few posts that generate some upvotes, and reinvest that in the next great post that you write. That post hopefully gets more upvotes, and if it does, you get more steem power to reinvest the next time and eventually you will be able to take out a bit of MAGICAL DIGITAL SKRILLAH without jeopardizing your chances of ever getting attention on the site again. Something like that, right?

I haven't found anyone on this site that makes really great content that I just WANT to view, read, or otherwise consume. A few years ago I started becoming addicted to YouTube because there were just so many great channels. And the algorithm got to know me very well and would send me great new things all the time...

I quit watching YouTube a little over a month ago and I think I made a good choice. I will never stop loving Vsauce and Kurzgesagt and so many others, but I need to figure out how to make my own damn content. I'm tired of just making videos for other people who happen to be able to pay a video editor. I have a bunch of ideas for music videos and shorts and things that I need to start making before I get too old. I should feel lucky that I'm not married or a parent or both.

I would like to be the kind of content creator that works hard to make videos that are purely entertaining. I just want to make things that you could watch on ANY platform, regardless of its affiliation to one industry or another. That's what my favorite content looks like, and that's what I want to make.

I went for a short jog first thing in the morning today. This is something I started doing just this last week. I passed a car on the way up the first block. And then it passed me. It made me think about value, something I have thought about a lot since becoming interested in crypto. I was considering the value of my jog, if it would really benefit my health and in what way. I also considered the negative value of driving a car. How the car is slowly accruing damage that will need maintenance, and using gas. What will the value of this post be? Maybe a few cents. But what will the value be to me, in a metaphysical sense? Sense is worth more than...cents. Sometimes.

So, to my fellow Steemericans, Steemistanis, and Steemlandians, I pledge to bring you some kind of content at least twice a week! It might be political, philosophical, musical, or visual art based, but I will be on here posting something.
