Getting Your Head on Straight: How I Revamped My Mornings With Three to Thrive

Hi Steemies! Who here has seen the Tony Robbins documentary? Pretty moving, right? I was so inspired by how he lives.

Recently, I've been listening to a lot of Eckart Tolle (staying in the present), Teal Swan (spiritual psychology), Gay Hendricks (overcoming your upper limit-- side note-- he's been the most helpful for naturally motivated career-driven people like myself), and of course Tim Ferriss (life hacks). Tim and Tony were talking about their morning rituals. They always meditate in some form and always journal or mentally do list goals and gratitude. I say, if you want to be successful, find successful people and do what they're doing!

Since then, I've been committed to meditating for 10-15 minutes a day. In prior attempts it didn't work because it's not realistic for me to meditate when I woke up. I'd be thinking about emails and social media, wondering what they held. So now I allow myself to check all of that, make (decaf) coffee, and then meditate. I do all kinds off of YouTube: a mix of Deepok Chopra, Tara Brach, and occasional TM.

Try it for 3 days and I promise you, you'll feel more awake if you've had a bad night sleep, a bit calmer, and have ideas flooding you for problems you haven't been able to crack. Each time I have had an a-ha moment. This morning it had to do with flyers for a business; minor, but it solved a problem I was having!

The next step is do your Three to Thrive. After meditating either write for five minutes or mentally go over each thought and really feel it in you. You'll list out 3 things you're grateful for (one should be small, like the wind on your face, or something like that), 3 things you're going to work on today, and then you can either write/think about your community (friends, family, money, home) or anything new you've learned (this is what I do).

I wanted to make more YouTube videos, so I decided to do vlogs as my daily journaling. There's a Freakonomics podcast about doing two things at once that act as a reward. The most common example of this is watching TV while you exercise. I now brush my teeth while making my bed. I never brushed long enough and can be too lazy to make my bed-- this solved both problems. I don't know if anyone will watch these vlogs on YouTube, but it's making me create videos and be accountable to the universe.

I encourage you to start this practice-- 10 minutes of meditation, plus 5 minutes of Three to Thrive. That's 15 minutes out of your morning that will make a huge difference. Remember, it's the small things over a period of time that add up.

Happy Steeming! Thank you for reading this! I hope you're inspired to try it tomorrow!
