Introduction and First Steemit Post ..... I Like to Learn Something New Everyday !!

in #introduceyourself7 years ago (edited)

Hi

My name is Peter .... I am a New Steemer, a New Blogger and a wanna be Vlogger !!!

I have countless interests, obsessions and passions .... far too many to list here, and I add to that list every day .... seemingly every hour of the day … yep even in my sleep !!!!

I truly like to learn something new everyday and add to my list !!!! I ENJOY sharing and learning from others who obsess over the same interests !!!

I learned a little about Steemit over the past few days !!! While I have SO MUCH more to learn about Steemit and the Steemit Community, I wanted to share what I have learned so far on my Steemit Adventure !!!

As I mentioned, I love to learn and share !! I have wanted to start a blog for years and I have had a few unsuccessful attempts at blogging. I would post on my own site and spend the next few days waiting for someone to read and comment on my ramblings..... and I would wait and wait. So I tried a new topic …. and another …. all the time still waiting ..... until I would lose interest.

Then a few days ago, Steemit popped up on my radar.... a Blogging/Social media platform with a user base that has many, if not all of the interests on my list ... plus thousands more topics for me to explore !!!

I am in ... Sign me up !!!

Oh and you can earn money for your posts... not the reason I joined .... but I can live with that and it will also provide some extra motivation to post !!!!

I quickly signed up for Steemit and waited for my approval notification ... It took 3 days .... I do wish that was a little quicker or have a little more interaction during the process .... as I did not want to lose interest and I wanted to get Steeming !!!! My account was verified and I was eager to get things setup !!!

I must confess I bypassed the new user setup guides and jumped right in with this post ... I am from the school of hard knocks .... learn as you go .... it works out most of the time ……. but has slowed me down a wee bit sometimes.

Before posting, I had to setup my profile, including the profile picture and cover image. I took a quick screenshot of the profile page and measured the cover image in Microsoft Paint just about every graphics program tells you the size of your graphic …. it is about 1,600 pixels x 150 pixels …… I fired up Photoshop quickly made a cover image with a dark enough background so my Steemit information would be visible, it is hard to see on a white background. The graphic looks pretty good, but knowing myself it will be modified and re-modified !!!

I made a duplicate over at https://www.canva.com !!! Canva is a free graphic-design tool website. It uses a drag-and-drop format and provides access to over a million photographs, graphics, and fonts. It is VERY EASY and QUICK to design professional graphics. The header that I found to be the closest in size is the Twitter Header in the Social Media and EMail Header section. I will modify and re-modify my cover image on Canva !!!

I added a profile picture too !!! I am not sure if there is a size requirement for the profile picture but this guy chiliponcho100.jpg is 150 x 150 pixels and they resized perfectly !!

It looks to be about a 50 x 50 pixels or a 50 pixel diameter circle on Steemit.

There are also areas for Display Name, About, Location and Website in settings.

There seems not be a save as draft button for posts here on Steemit ??? Only Post and that will not light up until you enter a tag and a clear button. I will have to do some more research on this as my initial searches confirm that is not a save as draft button ?? Until I figure out what is going on I will save my drafts in Google Docs .... I want to be able to get to my posts from anywhere and work on them from multiple computers, my tablet and my phone. I am one of those who writes and rewrites posts and this would be what works best for me.

I will research this some more and report back ... If anyone has any thought on this please enter them in the comments below.

Update as I was typing this my browser window closed and I thought my post was lost in the Internet Abyss... when I clicked the pencil icon to create a new post everything was there ?? Not sure if that was some kind of fluke or if Steemit is saving open posts ?? I checked on my laptop and clicking the pencil icon produced a blank post ?? So it maybe the device's browser cache that is "saving" the post??

One last thought ... I did use Markdown styling to bold some words in this post. You cans also use simple HTML --> HyperText Markup Language too .... So far I have tried bold and list with markup language and they work fine .... underline does not work ?? Page break works too !!!

bold with HTML

  • List with HTML
  • Line 2
  • I can not put the actual markup code in here as it tries to execute it and hides it, you can google simple HTML. I will try others in futures posts.

THANKS for listening ... I hope something here was useful for other new Steemers like myself !!!

    THANKS

    Peter
