- Introduction
Greetings to everyone in the Hive community! The topics in the news and discussions on social media have been changing so quickly that its been getting more difficult to keep up with all the new "hype" of the modern age. People in other forums around the world wide web have said the "new" generation of people would be more comfortable with technology and the innovations that come along with it. I would agree with that to a certain extent. Being part of the "new" generation myself, I think that curiosity and experience have been the primary drivers of all the new trends that I've adapted to.
Let's take cell phones as an example. When I got my first flip-phone back in the early 2000's, I was purely fascinated by the all the new features (e.g. texting, calling, gaming, taking photos) which I could enjoy without having to buy one single dedicated gagdet to acheive what could be achieved on a flip-phone with just a touch of a button. There was definitely a learning curve, but there was enough interest to overcome it. Let's take another example. When mainstream social media and blog sites were still gaining popularity in the mid to late-2000's, one of the first that I joined was Google Blogs. At the time, I was a complete novice at content creation and I felt very overwhelmed by the blogging experience. Over the course of a few months (and through trial and error), I was able to understand the general functions that allow authors to customize their posts to improve article readability. I was even able to garner some knowledge on HTML and CSS in order to be even more creative with my content. Over the years, I began to favor a more basic formatting approach to writing as opposed to an overly complex text/page appearance. Some of my friends called my style more "minimalistic" by design.
As I learned to adapt to different sites in the world wide web, I began building my understanding around it. However, there was quite a bit time needed in order for me to grasp the rapid changes that were happening in the technology sector. Essentially, it felt like when you got used to one process/method of using a particular technology, a brand new process comes up in order to deal with a brand new technology - and you would have to get used to that one too. But, as one of my friends mentioned, the only way to improve is - change. And I believe that change is what drives new technological innovations that benefit our society.
This brings me to Hive! I believe that this is another great innovation in the realm of user content and media. The global pandemic situation has changed my own experiences and reinforced some of my interests. After posting my first (short) introduction on Hive.blog and reading the comments of @fionasfavourites and visiting the links that were mentioned that comment, I would first like to thank you and the @ocd community for the kind and helpful welcome to the Hive platform. I would have felt really lost and confused without reading the content in the links you included. There were a lot of things to learn from the Newbies Guide hyperlink (which I definitely have to keep reviewing), but I believe that this new way of contributing content in a decentralized atmosphere is very different and much more rewarding compared to some of the the social media channels that I've been to during the past several years. I would also like to thank @lovesniper for being my very first follower!
- More About Myself and My Thoughts on Content Writing
I began my educational experience in the United States. Prior to going to high school, I was interested in many different goals such as becoming an astronomer, working as a biologist at a laboratory, and even trying to make small paper towels (at one point). I graduated high school with a focus on mathematics and science. During my college experience, I was introduced to many different academic opportunities, but I eventually settled with one main focus and completed my bachelors degree in engineering from university. Near the end of my university years, I began working in the realm of research and development for medical-related technologies for foreign countries. When I graduated, I worked as an engineering-focused consultant. The pandemic of 2020 had changed the job dynamic a lot - with online video conferencing as the primary means of communication. In the recent months, I have temporarily shifted from my work in the academic field to content writing. For engineers, writing happens to be one of the major side tasks that need to be done for just about any kind of process or project. There are various types of writing and my initial focus was on technical writing - the one I am most familiar with. However, over the past few months I've taken interest in a more casual approach to writing. In the future, when the pandemic situation gets better, I am considering a return to the academic or engineering sector in general. Through all my experiences, my passion for exploring new things, reading, and content writing has remained unchanged.
One of the most fascinating places on the web that has brought my curiousity to new heights is decentralized blogging and social media. In particular - Hive. It all started when I began using a web broswer called Brave. I was reviewing some online material and notes on various engineering topics when a Brave browser notification suddenly popped out. It was an ad about a SocialFi website called Torum. Out of pure curiousity, I clicked on it, created an account and began my journey contributing content to this beautiful, crypto-focused platform. The community there was very welcoming and supportive of new ideas relating to crypto investing, predictions, creative viewpoints, and more. While exploring some of the posts, I noticed that a couple of "landers" (i.e., the popular term for users on Torum) invited people to read their interesting content on Hive. Naturally, I became curious and joined Hive. After going through the account creation process, I instantly had a feeling that there was going to be a steep learning curve. After posting my first (short) introduction and reading the Newbies Guide from the comment of @fionasfavourites, I realized that I was not simply entering a social media website. I felt like I was entering a whole new "WEB" experience. All the knowledge that I learned in social media needed to be "upgraded" which will probably take some time for me to get used to.
One special pastime that I have is my desire for art. Many of my engineering colleagues in the past liked traveling, exploring, taking photos, and starting new engineering projects - which were interests that I also shared with them. However, art was the furthest thing in their minds. I would agree. It's hard to think about art and engineering together because they are completely separate fields. One deals with creativity and the other focuses on rigid methods/theories to solve problems. I guess my inspiration for art really came from my elementary and middle school years where the teachers were very supportive of my creative endeavors. With the recent popularization of NFTs and art technology, I feel like I have a new way of expressing my artistic side through the digital medium. Recently, I've joined a team that creates digital NFT paintings and sketches as part of an artwork collection in OpenSea.
- My Concluding Thoughts and Content Focus in Hive
As a content writer, I believe that the distribution of media and information are integral components in our society. I also think that the spread of various viewpoints and opinions about news and other types of information are equally as important. My writing has always focused on two directions - relaying news or providing opinions. After reading some of the posts in PeakD, I have become inspired to contribute content regarding my viewpoints about various events, discoveries, and other aspects of our world. As I gain more experience on this fascinating platform, I hope reach more people here and make good friendships.
Finally, I am not the type of writer that writes just for upvotes. That being said, I am very grateful for any kind of support you give to my posts whether it be commenting, reposting, sharing, or upvoting. I feel the most satisfaction when readers have become inspired, informed, educated, enlightened, or even if I had just slightly increased their interest in reading. Anything that contributes something positive to the community is a true gem in my opinion.
Thank you very much for reading and I hope you all have a wonderful day!
