I've posted a couple topics before this, so this isn't my first post here but I thought I should do the introduction post anyway.
Who am I
I am a computer nerd who has been a Linux system Administrator/Engineer for 23 years professionally. I have been interested in computers since I was about 12, so at this point I have been working with computers for a little over 30 years.
Technology interests
I have had a tremendous amount of technology that I have enjoyed over the years, and it is impossible for me to list them all, but my current technology obsessions are:
- blockchain (specifically Ethereum, but really any blockchain)
- python (I have used many programming languages over the years, C, C++, Java, PERL, PHP and plenty of others. Python has been my absolute favorite to work with)
- Because of blockchain, and the desire to develop tools for it I have also started learning
- JavaScript
- Solidity
- vyper
- IPFS
Although my teenage self wouldn't believe it, I have a love of learning and consider myself a life-long learner. I really enjoy figuring things out and understanding how things work.
Other interests
Almost everything I do is based on technology as I tend to "tech" up whatever it is I do.
Music
You can see my listening history at listenbrainz.org. I often say "I like any kind of music that isn't country". But honestly, there is even some older folk stuff that borders on country that I kind of like too. Most of the time I am listening to some form of electronic music. My current podcasts that I listen to are Paul Okenfold, Tiësto, Anjunadeep, Anjunabeats, and Above & Beyond.
Hobbies
I enjoy photography, but honestly it's been quite a while since I have taken any "real" photos.
My almost-completely no-tech hobby is fountain pens. I purchased a fountain pen a few years ago to force myself to re-learn handwriting because it got so bad I couldn't read my own notes. That turned into a bit of a collection hobby as I now own close to 20 pens (most "vintage" pens from around the 1920's through 60's). My blue Lamy Safari Al-Star is my go-to pen that I use daily. You know, when I'm writing something that isn't in MarkDown. I did "tech" this up a bit by keeping a database of my pens.
What do I want out of Hive?
As I work through my discoveries (specifically with blockchain, but probably not limited to it) I hope to post my findings, questions, or thoughts here to share with the community. I don't know how many people are interested, but hopefully someone will find my ramblings useful someday :)
Looking forward
Thanks for getting to know a little about me. I look forward to interacting with all you Hive people as I feel like I'm in this for the long haul. I've only been here for a little over a week, but this feels like home, and I'm really looking forward to being part of the growth of a viable alternative to the typical social network.
