The Symbiosis (Part 2) - another Chain Story Game

Hi everyone!! It's time now for me to extend one of my Story Chain Games. What you will see below is the Story Chain that was started in The Symbiosis - another Chain Story Game. I'd like you to read through what is there (credits after each segment to the author of the segment) and add to the chain of that story. Then, come back and read the branches and continues the branches that you like the most. I'm looking for the next scene snippet, not the entire completed story... about 5 paragraphs or so will be enough.

If this post gains enough Steem then I will make this into a full-on game for the best (most up-voted) branch. At that point I will divide the winnings as evenly as possible with the individuals who participated in that specific chained branch. So, if we want this to happen, you know what to do: UpVote this main article and your favorite branches; Resteem the game; and TELL ALL YOUR STEEMIAN FRIENDS!

The Symbiosis

Dr. Falling looked hard across the table, his hands clenched tightly. He just stared with such intensity, nothing more. It was a bit unnerving, actually. All he did was sit there and stare, as if I wasn't even there.

I couldn't believe I was actually here, after so many years of trials. I was numb in every nerve ending, waiting for something to happen. The medicine that I had taken earlier had not yet taken effect, but he said that I would know when it hit. I think even he was becoming impatient with this waiting game.

"How long will this take?" I complained. "I thought you said it would only be an hour or 2."

"Be silent and still. And quit shaking that fool leg of yours." He was always so agitated by something that I couldn't help.

"Sorry," I responded, like I always did when it was pointed out to me. "You know it's an unconscious thing that I don't intentionally do."

I stilled my leg, which is pretty tough to do if you have ever had this problem. That's when I started to feel something going on within my joints. They ached like nothing else in this world. Then, all of a sudden, it happened.

It's hard to explain, if you haven't had it happen to you. Dr. Falling's face seemed to elongate, melting slightly as if pulled in my direction, and then I saw his brain. Not brain, not exactly. Thinking. Thoughts. It's so hard to tell people about this using language.

"She's got to be through the transition," he was thinking, "or this is just another waste of time. She's pretty enough. It would be nice if she made it." And then he seemed to catch himself and thought, "Can you read me?"

I knew this was directed at me. I don't know how I knew, I just did. It was as if he'd spoken to me, though his mouth clamped shut, his lips a tight line. "I...yes?" I said it out loud, and he made a face.

"You don't have to do that," he thought. "You'll never have to do that again unless you're trying to communicate with a human." Then I saw a short...vision?...of Dr. Falling talking to his wife, a graphic representation of what he was thinking. Astonishing. I couldn't move. I couldn't control my own brain.

But then I saw more. I saw other women. Men. Others that had been through the symbiosis. I read all this from Dr. Falling's brain in less time than it took to draw breath. And then something else. Something in my own head. Something that hadn't been there before.

The light inside the room refracted what felt a thousand times across the walls. I could sense the essence of thoughts and what I could only think of as intentions. Dr. Falling thought blue and I could feel a whispering inside me. I felt the goodness.

Most of the others were some shade of gray or green. They came close and just stared hard at me as if I was a puzzle to be solved. "Dr., what's going to happen to me now?" I thought, throwing it in some strange way towards the man. He winced and I let a wisp of an apology drift. His smile was as blue as ever.

Dr. Falling didn't answer me, but picked me up in his hands and carried me to a crate. "You're going to be traveling to the National Symposium, my dear," he thought. "I know it's probably scary," he continued, blue tinging to orange at the edge, "but I am confident that you can make a difference."

"My fellow colleagues," he said aloud to the other people that had joined the room. Please step back so I can load my precious cargo."

I felt his hand caress down my ridged spine and leaned my head into it. I was kind of enjoying this, even though I knew in the back of my mind that this should feel odd. Either way, I trusted this man and crawled into the case.

The crate smelled of cleaning agents and flower petals. Dr. Falling had prepared it with a curl of blanket that was torn at the edges. I circled like a dog would, finding humor in the situation. I lowered my small body to the scratchy fabric and felt suddenly at ease and calm. My eyes circled counter to each other and the lids snapped shut.

I had dreams of Human things, of pizza and burgers and soda and so on and so forth. I had dreams of swimming and playing hockey as a kid, of fighting in the schoolyard and looking out the small window over the jet's shining wing. I had dreams upon dreams, but it was like they were giving me one final touch before they vanished in vapor. After each was gone, I couldn't bring them up again.

'Are you awake?' I sensed. It was Dr. Falling. It seemed we were on a trans-atlantic flight towards Serbia. 'We will be landing shortly and then it's on to the...'

The plane tipped and there was a squealing of pressure. My eyes rolled until they found Dr. Falling, floating in the air. Suddenly there was a popping sound all around and the Dr. was flung parallel to the floor, his body crumpling against the door of the Baggage Bay. He groaned around a scream and was still. I sensed no thoughts from him.

The plane dipped and began to twist and I was flung about the room. I was cradled snugly within the crate. When the nose struck the ground, I definitely felt that. The entire structure folded in on itself and exploded in sheets of metal. The fuel lines had broken and, as the plane was crushing into a dense forest, flames spewed outward.

The heat was intense and I could feel my flesh baking. I was about to die, but then a pair of hands grabbed the crate. The hands were covered over with thick hairs. Who could this be? I breathed shallow and tried to center my mind.

'Thank you,' I probed with my mind. A flush of color swept through my mind.
