I live on some acreage just outside a small town in North Idaho called Rathdrum. I have lived in this area for around 36 years. I have yet to figure out how the name came about, yet it is unique for sure.

The name is an anglicization of the Irish words rath droim. It means Hillfort. I can guarantee you an Irish emigrant must have named it after the town Rathdrum in Co. Wicklow.

    Thanks for the information on Rathdrum. My wife will love that, as she comes from a strong Irish background (O'Neal).
