Currently most of the content a regular user sees on Steem is created by the authors they follow. Finding interesting posts outside of one's social network is close to impossible as there are thousands of new posts created daily. Discovering good new authors to follow is like finding a needle in a haystack as good content can spread only through resteems.
sourceThe Idea
In our opinion Steem desperately needs a mechanism for discovering new interesting content. This is where we want to employ our expertise and provide users with better recommendations of posts.
Recommendation Engine
Our goal is to create complete recommendation service which will
- be able to give personalized recommendations
- provide you with better categorization so that you can easily find what you're looking for
- support authors in sharing what they love
This is a big project which requires a long term commitment. Now we are releasing the first feature. Under selected posts we are offering recommendations of other Steem content which readers might also be interested in. Our plan is to release features one by one which will allow us to analyze their impact and will help us improve.
Who we are

Currently we are in early alpha. We are testing new things and we need your feedback! We appreciate any feedback - upvote, downvote or comment with ideas for improvement :)

I like this idea. Sounds similar to steemdistilled, a twist on the process of steam distillation. The latter process is used to make whiskey from beer. Scotch whiskey is widely recognized as one of the best. A lot of the flavor of scotch comes from the oak barrels in which it is stored, often for over a decade. I think there needs to be easier access to some of the older, well-aged, high impact posts (steemscotch!) that newcomers like myself have never seen, but could learn a great deal from.
What a great idea, an archive of content easy to find and original. This is something that would really assist steemit users looking for content to curate rather than post.
Thanks. I think I made a mistake when I wrote "steemdistilled" ... I should have said "SteemSTEM Distilled".
Welcome to Steem @discoversteem.

Well this is an interesting thing to see. I think this is good for more post promotion. :)
Well, not just plain promotion. We want to bring the posts to the readers who can appreciate them..
Yes that's amazing.
I really like your project as I am also a IA enthusiast, would be really glad to exchange and cooperate further =) Best, Jean
We are happy to hear that :) Currently we are more in an exploration phase - trying to find out what people like and don't like. But in the future we will be definitely looking for cooperation!
We saw that you're organizing Steem meetups in Vienna, that's so cool! We are considering to drop by :)
Cheers, @discoversteem
Would be awesome to see you around in person, I am sure we have a lot to share =)
We will be in Vienna during the weekend of May 26/27th. It would be great to meet in person! Let's get in touch over email ([email protected]) so we can discuss details.
I feel like I have a birthday present with one week delay already announced! =)
My email is [email protected], I contact you very soon. In between, and by the way don't hesitate if you need for example accommodation or an electric car during your stay. We are just launching @frameworks which will soon make calls for #AI, #CryptoArt & #blockchain and other types of contributors to achieve its goals, reward the contributors and when the conditions met self replicate to allow new co-hosts and creative residents to install and fund the next autonomous space. Hope it will inspire you! ;-)
Hello!
Great to have you around. What type of cool topics are you going to write about?

Good idea keep me updated with this project i like to see similar content as mine or content that provide some great value
Hi,
thanks a lot for your positive reaction. We believe that some recommendation engine is really needed for Steem social network and we're working on improving our work further.
Best regards, @discoversteem.
good idea. i liked the project.
Is everyone writing their own code for these bots that leave comments or is there an open source comment bot to start out with for all these AI bots I see? I am in desperate need of 2 comment bots for 2 projects. (Promise it isn't spam lol)
That question aside this is probably the most useful comment bot I have seen yet. Did you think of ignoring voting service accounts for more accurate results? If not there's an idea.
hihi, I love the mention
Thanks for your kind words!
The best place to start when writing a bot is to look at the python-steem library and this example of a voting bot. If you know python, it should be easy for you to change it for comments.
Listen to your client, take into consideration all of their input, weigh the options, study the details, know the target audience, and then, if necessary, ignore all of it and design what you think will work best.
Great Post!
Nice to meet you, @discoversteem! Welcome to Steemit!
Welcome to Steemit discoversteem. Let me know if you got any questions about Steem or anything related to it! The official FAQ can be found here and has A LOT of information https://steemit.com/faq.html - Also remember, Steemit is just ONE of the sites built that uses Steem the blockchain. We also have DTube - our very own Youtube, DSound for Soundcloud and Steepshot if you prefer Instagram like experience. I'd also like to mention ChainBB - forums, Busy - Steemit with more modern look basically, DMania for memes and Dlive for streaming just like in Twitch! Welcome to the blockchain

Que bueno, gracias por sus consejos muy oportunos e interesante para nuestro mejoramiento en esta plataforma
While the idea itself might be nice, I would rather see that as a part of the UI otherwise it's just polluting the blockchain with redundant data (when bots do that as comments).
We agree, recommendations should definitely be a part of the UI. It was even our original idea to make a stand-alone platform, but that requires much more work. We decided to first test some simple features, see if there are some people who would appreciate them and then start working on something bigger.
We also need to solve the business plan for such a platform, because Steem allows to profit only from services offered to authors, but our main target is readers / curators. The goal is to better connect these two groups, as we think this is quite difficult currently.
Beneficiaries might be partial solution (if your UI will be so tempting that people would use it not only for reading/curating but also writing)
But I agree, that would require a lot more work.
