From South Africa to Laos... #introduceyourself

 #introduceyourself

Well I have been asked this quite frequently the last couple of years but first how did we get here?

For starters my husband "D" and I "A" made some life changing decisions when he said goodbye to the company he has worked for the last 13 years. We decided to rent out our house, pack up the dogs and move to a country we have only seen on the world map. We were just ready for that new adventure, to meet new people, to taste new food, to smell new places. We had gotten way too comfortable in our daily routine. It was time for change and because we are adventurous and curious, change meant BIG change.

We have been going back and forth on which platform to use to share this incredible journey. Where could we tell our stories, share our pics, posts our videos? Well, thank you to @Rossco99 we have been introduced to @steemit. We are so excited to try it out and hear what you have to say.

O yes, back to change… BIG change. We moved 5 hours ahead in time and over 10 000km away from our home in South Africa. Luckily D got a great job, the dogs eventually arrived and we got ourselves a beautiful house in the capital city of the Lao PDR, Vientiane. We were ready to meet and engage with this predominately Buddhist nation. This brings me to the introduce yourself. When you are a newbie in a country you have to break the ice quite regularly and try to make friends. There is the language barrier, the accents, the foreign habits, the uncomfortable silences and at the end of the day they are all overcome by consuming enough Beer. In this case Beer – Lao with ice… yes ice! After that, introduce yourself comes way too easy:

We met nearly 20 years ago. We have been together since our first kiss. We try to do everything together. We love adventure sports which include but are not limited to hiking, 4x4ing, running, skiing, scuba diving, kayaking, camping and even a little skydiving. We love traveling and exploring new places! Coming from a hospitality background we definitely share a love for food and fine beverages not limited to wine and whiskey!

During our last two years, we have shared Beer – Lao with many nationalities. We have had plenty of adventures here and elsewhere in Asia. We have tried new foods, met new people and have been caught up in some pretty hilarious situations. We hope to share some of our most treasured stories with you here to hopefully encourage you to explore this beautiful planet or should you not have the means to, just to enjoy it through our posts.

What other countries were on your short list and how did you narrow down your choices to Lao?

Thank you
We didn't actually know Laos existed until my husband got offered a job there in the jungle. We had on the short list Thailand, Malaysia, Chile, Argentina and Tanzania, because we'd been to all these places on holiday and loved them and wanted to see what it would be like to live there.
