Born of afro-indigenous Taino and Spaniard descent; grew up in Philadelphia, schooled at the South New Jersey Academy of Performing Arts. Reading and literacy are my passion, so you could count on me during that test because I read and understood the book. I graduated from a small catholic college with a degree in English and a concentration in writing. A creative, professional, daydreamer.
My parents always did their best to give me a better life and education. In return, I’ve always done my best to make them proud. Since a young age, I understood this as a place of privilege and considered myself a role model to other kids of color to excel. It was taught and instilled as almost a code of ethical morals--taking what you’ve learned and giving it back to the community.
My career has been a complete reflection of this as I’ve done work in the LGBTQ+ scene, I’ve helped first-generation students like myself navigate their college experience, and now I give back in the form of working at a corporate office for a very well-known Christian youth association.
My hopes for this blog are to utilize this platform not only to express myself and tell my story but to continue to be a role model to those around me. My plans for future posts will include my reading lists, music, and social commentary on topics I find interesting or theoretical. In my next post, I’ll dive deeper into how COVID contributed to my career, the burnout associated with it, and how I coped with being fired from my “dream job”. Things might get spicy, but that shows me as a writer that you’re engaged in the content. I will engage as well and welcome topics suggested to me via comments. I love a good hot take.
