Hi I’m Elyar. I sang for millions of people, toured arenas, topped the charts, and then disappeared into thin air. PART 4

in #introduceyourself7 years ago (edited)

PART 1 / PART 2 / PART 3

It all felt wrong. I’d ignored my tastes and Self for so long. I felt numb, bored or anxious – usually all three at once.

I’d released 2 fairly successful singles with my label/management and was internationally known, but I never felt like I deserved the incredible fans I had gained. I worked hard - but knew I was capable of so much more than I what was putting out into the world.

The relationships weren't working. I desired development and authenticity, but the label was more interested in the fastest buck. The compromise had become too complicated and we parted ways. The word got around and managers were approaching, looking to do a US deal and get more music out quickly. But I knew that I wasn’t ready, I’d made that mistake once and I needed to work on myself. Lacking a mentor, it was now up to me.

I decided to build a studio in my back garden with my brother.

We started producing music together for the first time and a vision started to appear. I decided it was time to disappear from the internet/public eye and get deeper into the music and focus on the vision that was growing.

I took my videos down from YouTube and started releasing music under the name ‘SVFARI’ to completely free myself from anything I’d done in the past. I’d never produced my own music and released it before - it felt amazing. To see people from all over the world enjoying SVFARI’s music when I didn’t have a single fan to start with.

I felt the furthest away from Elyar Fox I’d been in ages. I felt like I was starting to find myself. The music industry started showing interest after my song ‘Beautiful Human’ got featured on some influential music blogs, which was a confidence boost in my ability to make things happen my way.

Beautiful Human (Audio)

A couple months ago, I decided it was time to come back, but just as Elyar (My birth name). I released Beautiful Human and gave a breif explanation to why I publicly evaporated. It’s going to be a lot of work building things up independently and becoming a better artist, but I’ve given myself what I’ve wanted for so long; A new beginning.

So here I am. The most I’ve ever said on the Internet. Leave me a comment and let’s talk. I’m excited to get back on the road soon and to share my music, thoughts and everything that’s happening with you, here on Steemit.

Your story is really amazing. You have a really good head on your shoulders and are more self-aware at a young age than most people ever achieve. I imagine the best part is knowing your fans know and appreciate the real you, not a manufactured identity engineered to appeal to the masses. That's worth more than fame and fortune to a wise man.

My fave band is hed p.e., and they decided to remain independent artists instead of signing with a major label. As a fan, I truly appreciate the worldly trappings they sacrificed to keep their message authentic. Glad to see other artists are similarly keepin it real.

Appreciate you @mtgmisfit, that's great to hear. It's easy to fall for the idea of success, but takes some searching to discover your own.

Making people happy starts with you first. You have figured that out, it seems. Beautiful human sounds about right.

lets work broooo @jjjjosue

Good luck! It takes courage to do what you really want to do. It is never easy, but when you are passionate, it doesn't matter. I myself have moved away from the corporate world very recently, just 2 months! And since then I have discovered things about me that I thought were not possible. I had never written a blog thinking what my colleagues will say. Guess what, in just last 2 months I have posted over 100 blogs.
Upvoted.

Happy to hear that @ajain. It's so much easier to keep doing something that fulfils you. Hard work becomes easy.

Good to hear that in the end you gained control of your own music, the industry is a God damn vampire! Welcome to Steemit man.

Lost a little blood, went a little pale, but I'm still pumping. Thanks for reading, @clintjunior.

You didn't turn did you? ;)

Hard to say, I do get major headaches in the sun unless I sip on the blood of the innocent. But that could be genetics.

wow man great story.

A true muscisian and artist.

Hey man, enjoyed your story, resonated with it as I am a producer too, first and foremost, and while I don't have the same amount of experience as you I have had a little taste of what labels are all about (generally). Listened to beautiful human and its really well produced, love the vocals, writing and production overall :) keep it up!

Here's something I produced recently if you wanna check it out...

Thanks @karliedan! The rest of the SVFARI EP was an experiment in different sounds and ways of writing, but I decided to put it online. It's on Spotify, iTunes/Apple music etc. - https://fanlink.to/SVFARI

Beautiful story indeed, be in harmony with yourself no matter what. If you have ideas for your future music videos, we can make this happen, but anyway, nice to meet you.

Thank you. Your videos look incredible! It's a shame you're in Russia?

Thanks! I can travel all over the world, so no restriction here)) What videos did you watch?

We have so many artists now a days that just release song after song after song, like you say to make a quick buck for the record companies. Good for you that you realised you were going down the wrong path for you and applied the breaks! Looking forward to having a listen to your music. Nice to hear your story :)

If you see yourself about to drive off the bridge, hit the brakes and jump out of the car. A dramatic move, but necessary. Thank you, I'll be sharing more music on here in the next week.

Feels good to see someone really thinking about the implications of what we do in our everyday life and reacting instead of complaining about others. Really interesting story mate, hope you make it! It's not my music though but there's an audience, I'm sure.

Anyway, your self-awareness will take you through your life. It's a really really rare ability. Keep it!

Thank you. We're not here for a long time, so why not spend it creating something positive? I know too many people lost in drama... I've been there myself.

Amazing Story brother, I am an underground Techno/House DJ and Music Producer. All I am going to say is FUCK MAJOR LABELS. They strip everything from the artist and just view as you as a CASH CROP.

Look at artists like Chance The Rapper, he is the most successful indie artist of this generation and he did it without any major labels, the times are turning. People are pushing away from all that greed and working for themselves, and it is BEAUTIFUL!

Wish the best, you have a great voice too, keep it up!

Appreciate it man - It's crazy how quickly the tables have turned with the music business. Being indie is a seriously valuable asset, but it requires serious commitment to the game and your craft to make a career from it. I can see Steemit helping all the 'non-commercial' artists to be seen, appreciated and paid for their work. 🙌
