Hello fellow Steemies! I'm Adrienne, one half of the human population here on the Farmstead. The Farmstead is 20 acres and currently hosts one dog, two rabbits, 21 chickens, four ducklings and three goslings (collectively the ducks and goslings are known as gucklings). This year we hope to also add some quail to the bunch. Turkeys and bees are also on the add list, but no rush, we have a lot of infrastructure to create before we can add much more.
The purpose of this blog will be to share with you all our adventures in farmsteading. I will of course share with you positives, but I promise to also share with you the mistakes we've made along the way! And let me tell you, it's quite the list already. With those mistakes, I hope you learn from them instead of making them yourself.
Anyway, my husband and I have had a very adventurous first 5 years of our marriage. He was in the military and because of the military we have lived in South Korea and Germany. We just returned from Germany back to Oregon in 2015 and are now a veteran family. We had been talking about having our own space and some property for a couple years and somehow we've managed to get our grubby hands on 20 acres here in the Crooked River National Grasslands of Central Oregon.
Now that we have this huge blank canvas, our goal is to work toward the self sustaining model of life and do what we can to provide for ourselves. Currently our goal is to build up the property's infrastructure before we add any more animals other than birds.
So hold onto your hats, cause this is bound to be a bumpy ride!
I am open to any questions you might have, don't hesitate to ask, I will answer as best I can! Thank you for taking the time to read my intro!
PS. Does this post seem familiar? Well, it is. I am embarrassed to say that I have fat finger pasted over and deleted the super special password for the FarmsteadSmith account. And no, my browser did not save the password. We've been working hard over the last day+ trying to find a solution but have not been successful.
Please forgive me, I was in the process of trying to copy and paste the password... in any case, it's done and over with and this is where we are now! Ha. If you've come over from the other account, thank you so much for taking the time to do so. I've been just sick over the whole thing all day, and I'm very embarrassed. I hope to be able to merge the old account or at least delete it in the future. I am not here to screw the system and I really want to be a part of this community.
PPS. Did you know you can shake your iPhone to undo something in the notes app? I didn't, until it was too late.
PPPS. SAVE YOUR PASSWORD. Go ahead and take a moment to save it in another location right now. Maybe you have it in 23 places already, but I bet a 24th won't hurt.

Welcome to Steemit, and congratulations on your farmland!
Consider coming out to the Rainbow Gathering, July 1-7 near John Day, OR :-)
I just gifted you a @randowhale vote as part of an idea I'm calling #payitforward. I'm also featuring you in my newest update on the project.
As you can see from this image, my 2 $BD payment to @randowhale just turned into an increase of around $13 on your expected payout (meaning 6.5 $BD & some number of SteemPower). If you were to spend just 4 of that extra $BD to #payitforward to two other posts, you would still be ahead and could give them the same kind of boost, or maybe even more :-)
Thanks for being part of Steemit, and maybe share some whale-vote love with other folks you enjoy reading, friends who join the site, or great posts you see. Check out @randowhale's introduction (linked in the comment above) and my announcement of #payitforward to learn more.
Steem on!
PS: Thanks @randowhale
Welcome again.
I took my vote off the old post and placed it here instead.

Hi @farmstead and welcome to Steemit, once again i guess lol :)
I had a friend who lost his password to and had to start a second profile. So don't feel to bad about it, it happens lol :D
Well thanks!! I don't feel as bad now. It's been a week. I'm really happy to be here. I've been meeting the coolest people! Learning new things! It's great!
Thanks so much for taking the time to come over, read, and leave a comment!! I really appreciate it!
Good luck with your new homestead adventure!
I had 10 acres in the country for about 20 years until an ugly part of life happened. We always had a big garden, and raised mostly chickens and turkeys, I also had rabbits. There was always at least 1 horse on the property, now there's a big hole into which you pour money! We had a couple of dairy goats for several years, in retrospect, that may not have been one of my better ideas. :-)
I live in town now and just have a big garden, the city doesn't allow livestock such as chickens and rabbits, unless the rabbit is a pet.
I tend to write many of my posts here on steemit on my greenhouse and garden.
Haha horses are definitely very big expensive toys, that's for sure. Unless you've taught them to pull a plow or something, they're not a whole heck of a lot of useful. I mean, people hardly even use them to round up cattle anymore because 4wheelers are still cheaper in the long run! We're all about double use animals.
Sorry to hear about your no good situation! Have you thought about skirting around the rules with Quail? Usually unless they're mentioned specifically, you won't get into trouble!
For some reason, I've never really had much interest in quail. Pheasants, on the other hand...
Hm, why? Cause they're 'prettier'?
No, probably because they're bigger.
Hm. They've never really been on my radar of interests. I think my husband is interested. But I do think quail are quite adorable. There are so many different kinds. Haha.
True, and they lay these cute little miniature eggs. I don't know if they lay eggs like a chicken, or just during nesting season.
Hey there! Welcome :) sorry to hear about the technical difficulties
Thank you! Man, that has like, never happened to me before! Thanks for coming over! :) I really appreciate it!

Keep on truckin. I'm Jim from a homestead up in central BC. Found out about Steemit from Zac over at American Homestead. Never did much on line but cruse the net and watch. Guess its time to contribute. Will post my first tomorrow. Beware of Frost and predators, they screw up the Stead real quick. TTFN
Right now my biggest predator is th damn ground squirrels! They ate my whole garden! It's raised beds next year for sure! I suppose frost is a good second! I think we are only just now out of frost danger!
Is Zac on Steemit? What's the username? Sounds like a good person to follow!
Can't wait to see what you decide to contribute! Thanks for taking the time to stop by!
Zac is American Homestead, he seems to be pretty tight with Papa Pepper. Ya squirrels, so darn cute, destroy everything they touch. But they keep sharp.
I'll see if I can find him!

Welcome! Finally remembering to browse through the intros to find more like minded people like us! Glad you are here and looking forward to your journey ~ Heidi from RainCountry
It's great fun browsing through the introduction posts, isn't it? Besides replying to people's comments, it has to be one of my favorite things.
I think I found one of those friend trai things for homesteaders somewhere, but I'll have to find it again...
Thanks for stopping by and taking a minute of your time to comment!
Sorry to hear about the password issue. Those definitely suck! I tossed an extra upvote to ya to help build you back up a bit more. :)
I couldn't easily track down your comment on one of my previous posts asking about a guide to know when you've been flagged. I got it posted up today which you can find here: https://steemit.com/steem-help/@sykochica/answering-common-questions-how-do-i-know-if-i-got-flagged
Feel free to request any other guides/faqs if they come to mind. :D
Keep Smilin' and Steem On!
It was embarrassing and I was real ashamed that I had that password issue. But I am so happy to be a part of the community and following helpful people like yourself! Thank you for the upvote, for sure I can use it! Haha I can't wait for my upvotes to be able to help people out too. :) thanks again for the guide, and for all the rest that you do! I look forward to more!
It's awesome seeing two fellow Oregonians on here! I'm originally from LaGrande :) My boyfriend and I are currently working on sustainable living but we have a lot of infrastructure to go as well. Seeing you guys here is motivation to keep working hard!
Hi! Are you still in oregon?
Nix that! Just read you're in Alaska! :)
Thank you for stopping by my blog!
Welcome to steemit! Congratulations on your property. I love to connect with other people that have the same mind set that I do! I will follow you and see what I can learn from you! I hope you find time to check out my posts too, every now and then. Thanks @sarkhomestead I upvoted and followed you.
Thank you for coming by! I'll definitely check you out! This is a new adventure for us!
Hi @farmstead. Looking forward to hearing more about your homesteading progress. We've got a similar setup over in Wales in the UK. We had turkeys for a while when I swapped them for a website. Also tried quail briefly but they didn't work out. We are majoring on chickens at the moment.
Hahahah what didn't work out with the quail?
Husband wants turkeys but, I'm gonna wait too at least next year. Those things are crazy! And a little scary...
A big warm Steemit welcome goes out to you Farmstead! :-D
Upvoted and High Paw.
Aweeee hi thanks!!!
How do you embed images in comments? I'm on my mobile devices most often.
You're welcome Farmy. ;-) I'm on a Mac, so I'm dragging the image across from another application. Apart from that, you could copy the URL of the image and then paste it into your message and that should work, if you can do that on your phone? Hope this helps. Flatrider.
Someone said you could directly copy and paste the image but I can't seem to do that in my phone (iPhone). The links of course work but the image doesn't show, just the link. Thank you!!
Damn, I just don't have any idea unless you used a PC or a Mac to put the pictures on. :-( Hope you work something out.
Ahhhh well! Hahha that's okay!! :) thank you!
Welcome :-)
Thank you!
#farmsteadsmith
I am very much looking forward to seeing you both ride on this bumpy but rewarding ride! God bless you😊
Awesome! Thanks!! :D :D
Thank you for your service to our country...
My husband was the one in the military, but, I was there supporting him all the way! <3 Thanks!
