Don't Mind Me...an Introverted Introduction

in #introduceyourself7 years ago

I'm one foot in and one foot out of the Steem bath. I love the idea, but I hesitate to share too much of myself with those I don't trust. At this point in time, I still don't trust Steem. Give me time.

Besides being an introvert, my other character trait is being contrarian. I always find some way to disagree with whatever the common wisdom of the day is.

As you might imagine, this is not a recipe for making a large circle of friends and admirers. But I do keep in mind Mark Twain's comment, "Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to reform (or pause and reflect)." Not that I think I am smarter than anyone else. I just don't believe in the wisdom of crowds. It goes like this:

One person - Maybe brilliant, maybe stupid, maybe batshit crazy, maybe all three. But one person's unspoken opinions are at least pure. Pure bullshit, maybe. But pure.

Two people - Now we can share ideas. If done right, we can both learn and become smarter. However, being human nature to want to get along, we will be gentle in criticizing our partner's goofier opinions and maybe withhold opinions that we think might annoy the other person. So with only tow people, already we start with self-censorship and with compromise (appearing to agree with stuff we flat out disagree with).

Three people - Sharing of ideas slips here, as the 2 with the majority opinion will badger the one with the minority opinion, until they concede or at least stop sharing their idea. And so far as compromise and self-censorship, they are effectively double here. Now we have two others to think about rather than just one.

Four people - We are the Borg. Fuck yeah! USA! USA! USA! Total brain death.

Of course, this is all just my opinion. And I'm probably wrong. I have trouble finding my house keys most days, what do I know?

This is a roundabout way of explaining why I haven't yet posted my picture. Or, more to the point, why I haven't posted my pictured holding up my user name and Steemit written on a little card, Steemit's version of Mugshots 2.0.

Bear with me, please.

But I do want to say hello, Steem people.

Don't mind me.

Welcome @fishery! :) I suppose at any given moment, when someone is reading your good words it is really only two people's minds...

Welcome :) I'm an introvert myself and totally feel you on the whole sharing thing. BUT, for some reason I'm in one of my moment where I don't give a crap and I just went for it. So far it seems pretty okay :)

Welcome to Steemit!

Welcome here @fishery. You give it a try. You don't need to be personal immediately. Just read and comment to start with. If you feel more comfortable, maybe you will do a little bit more. The community is great. See you around.

The beauty of the internet is anonymity.

It used to be "Nobody on the Internet knows you are a dog." Now they not only know I am a dog, but they know my favorite dog food, my problem with fleas, what kind of collar I wear, who I howl with at night, where I like to pee and my fetish for moldy cheese biscuits.
