Hello Steemit! I joined Steemit 125 days ago. Today I'm ready to introduce myself to the big family!

in #introduceyourself7 years ago (edited)

Hi all,

My name is Hank. I'm a full-time blogger and a proud owner of an adorable cuddly cat.

I work from home in my cozy (translation: messy) little home office every day.

Despite being a blogger, I'm terrible at writing -- a skill that I'm trying improve.

How did I discover Steemit

I binge read blogs to get inspiration.

The owner of this blog that I routinely read wrote an article about a website he recently joined called Steemit.

He was super hyped at the beginning of his article.

I just couldn't get it. Why was someone so excited about a website that was obviously about either steamers or steam food recipes?

As it turned out, I couldn't be more wrong. Steemit is a one-of-a-kind online community that combines social media and cryptocurrency. Now, I was hyped.

Naturally, riding my personal steam-powered (steem?) hype train, I went ahead and applied for a Steemit account.

Unfortunately, as many of you may remember, the application process took a couple of days to get approved.

I promptly forgot about the application and blatantly ignored the approval email that arrived in my inbox precisely 125 days ago on August 9, 2017.

Intermission

I did have an excuse for ignoring Steemit.

The time when I first signed up was a particularly chaotic and stressful time for me.

Six months earlier in February 2017, I had left a well-paid corporate job to pursue my dream. Six months later, I was still struggling to pay my bills, and my savings were depleting at an alarming rate.

Fast forward to December 2017, I'm now freaking filthy rich.

Just kidding, I wish that was true.

I'm not rich by any standard, but as luck would have it, my blogs and other online hustles have grown to a level that can sustain my lifestyle.

There is still much more I can and should do to grow my business and make more money in the process.

But I'm feeling more at ease with spending my time and energy in other areas that also interest me. I'm, of course, talking about cryptocurrency, blockchain technology, and Steemit.

Hello Steemit

Getting back to Steemit wasn't straightforward for me.

To begin with, I couldn't even remember the username I used for signing up. Fortunately, I didn't delete the confirmation email from Steemit.

From the email, I rediscovered my username @fulltimeblogger -- solving the first part of the login puzzle. Yes, I didn't remember my password either.

Unfortunately, there wasn't a Forget Password button on the login page. I tried every password I had used elsewhere, but it just wasn't going work.

Feeling fed up, my next step was to try creating a new account --which was as smooth as sandpaper. When I entered my phone number, the system returned an error saying that the number has already been used.

@$#^$^%$&!@#!@#@#!@#! This was much tougher than I thought it would be.

After some mild amount of cussing, it hit me -- there's this little booklet in my drawer where I kept my important information (very old school, I know). Maybe my password was in there.

Sure enough, as I flipped through my book of secrets, the word "steemit" appeared on of one of the pages, followed by my username and a cryptical string.

I had found my Steemit password.

Hello Steemit, for real this time

So here I am, logged in to my account that could have been lost forever, typing on my aged wireless Logitech keyboard, addressing my fellow Steemit friends.

I'm glad to be back, even though my time here was brief.

I look forward to sharing useful information and engaging in meaningful discussions with you. And, of course. by useful and meaningful, I mean lots and lots of memes.

Let's be friends.

Some notes

I was going to change my username but later realized that it's not possible. But come to think about it, it is who I am -- a full-time blogger.
