Who Is Gordon Freeman #3

The first post is here.

The saga continues with #2 here.

I'm going to hit three posts to continue this "about me" journey. One of them is about what happened at the start of 2020, before the crushing blows of reality. The next will be about the true "who is Gordon?" topic. The third will be my hopeful journey forward after a third major setback with yet another crypto exchange (shocker, right?).

And now for #3!

This is the part where I cover the harrowing tale of who the 'real' Gordon is. This is to say, Gordon Freeman is my online persona, chosen for a myriad of crypto-related reasons. But, there's a real dude behind the words you read, and I am now going to tell you a little about how I ended up in cryptoland.

Skipping the part where I was born, grew up, went to school... I am a musician, composer, recording engineer, mastering engineer, singer, multi-instrumentalist, and though I utilize whatever it takes to get a song written and recorded, my first true professional training is in percussion. I sang and toured the world and that was cool.

My B.A. was in English Literature with a triple Minor in Art, Music, and Psychology. I was in the record industry through the 90's and still in the present, though not as actively. In the midst of doing production and mastering work, I re-launched my art career at the advent of eBay, including many local art fairs, and had my works in galleries in multiple states and even 2 museums. That was a highlight to my visual works.

Back to recording arts, my rise to Mastering Engineer led to interest in having me beta test a lot of audio recording software, which in turn led to my developing my own line of audio software. This eventually overtook the time going into our art business. As political in-fighting and greed became an increasing concern within the audio world, I saw the need to get marketing help to move my audio software into better circles and distribution, but I found marketing and promotional campaign helpers far over-valued and even more over-paid. In the end, I learned much more than I ever wished to about marketing and professional SEO copywriting. In a quest to help expand my audio business, I ended up picking up extra work writing copy for others I initially wished I could afford to hire. Irony! I went on to take on large technical copywriting jobs and corporate writing work.

A member of the family who would periodically share with us their interest in Bitcoin over the years, got me interested in digging in to learn about cryptocurrencies, and at the earliest days of truly promising crypto exchanges, I decided to learn everything I could about trading.

I began paper trading, and found that there was a wonderful phenomenon; many years and thousands of hours analyzing the visualization of audio waveforms in mastering and creating software had an alternate benefit; I was able to identify unusual patterns in charts. Every day I tested myself a little more, and minus the money part, I found it fascinating. Adding the money, I found trading terrifying. But, it took 14 days, making increasingly larger day trades, before I had my first position called wrong. That one cleared 2 days later. I realized it needed to be taken more seriously.

It has been an intense roller coaster ride, with some times of absolute misery and terror, theft, unfair calls made by centralized exchanges, but a promise that encourages one to continue forward overall. I am now in my 3rd year as a day trader, and I have done a little teaching, intend to massively ramp up my social media and become increasingly involved in the community. This is a project of interest and of passion, and I hope things become even more explosive when we reach mass adoption.

Thanks for reading. Next is the final story about the true Gordon Freeman.

...and for now, Gordon Freeman out.

Interesting history you have there. I was wondering how you made the transition from the music industry to the crypto industry. Look forward to the next one!

Hey thanks! Sometimes a person can wonder if there are truly people out there who care about what you write. If there's even one person, I can find the fire inside to write more. Appreciated!

I know the feeling very well. That's why I make a point of commenting on every post I read to the end 😉

That's awesome!
