#Introduce Yourself
Hello Steemians. I am a senior who lives along the Canadian Westcoast. I am a wife, a mother and a grandmother.
As a senior I find it very hard to keep up with all the Tec knowledge changes that seem to take place with lightening speed. I am hoping by joining Steemit I can learn some new things while being able to exchange some ideas with others. I don’t think that the younger generation can fully appreciate how hard for us to keep up. This is particularly driven home when my young grandchildren are helping me with a new feature on my phone or computer.
#My Introduction to Steemit
Hopehugs introduced me to Steemit. I was inspired by her story of overcoming some really difficult personal challenges. It would be nice to be able to reach out and give her a hug.
#My Background
I grew up in a sports family. My father was a very successful Canadian Golf Professional. As a young girl I was not encouraged to pursue golf. I had two brothers who were the golfers. However as I got older I started to golf and still like to play. It is such a frustrating game.
As a result of this family connection my husband and I ran a wholesale golf equipment company until we retired. The building of this company had me travelling to Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Korea to seek products. This experience was eye opening to me. If I had been younger and hadn’t had the responsibilities at home I would have loved to have spent a couple of years working in Hong Kong.
#My Interests
I love to cook. You can see this interest at my website potspansetcetc.com. If I can learn to photograph my cooking as I put together a recipe may be I can share some of our favorite food with the Steemians.
I love to read. My night table is always piled with books. It is hard to say what my favorite books are. If I think back to my childhood I loved the Anne of Green Gables Series by Lucy Maud Montgomery. Since then I read a wide variety of genres. I especially like mysteries but I don’t restrict my reading to them. Recently All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr really tugged at my heartstrings.
#A Personal Note
Looking through the Steemit site I see people are being encouraged to be personal about them selves. The following is not meant to be a whine but a statement of fact. In the last few years I have had some unexpected surprising health problems. As a result of this the recovery periods have completely changed my life. To hopefully continue to stay mobile I have had to adopt a rather ridged exercise program. By using the term ridged I mean I must constantly do it or I regress. This had caused me not to have the time I need to work on the several websites that I have. It has halted the learning process I had under taken. At the moment I am feeling a bit lost in this part of my life. I am hoping that maybe by exchanging ideas and getting to know the many Steemians I will find my way back to learning about this most confusing digital world. In return I will try to bring something to the site.

Any grandma jumping into something as high tech as Steemit definitely gets my respect and applause!!!! Welcome @grandam! Steemit is a great place to learn about just about anything...cultures, tech, literature, photography, cooking, and on and on. I'm @danielshortell and I write short stories here on Steemit (in fact i just posted a story about two seniors in a failed love attempt of, er, sorts :)

Welcome to Steemit @grandam!
This is a great community of content creators. Steemit has a bit of a learning curve. So try to have patience to understand the platform, how to format your posts, and optimize your payouts.

Hello there @grandam... Welcome to steemit.. I hope you'll enjoy it here.. Have fun... Keep steeming!
Hello @granam!
Welcome to Steemit. From reading your introduction it seems that you will have a lot to write about. Your trips around the world while you had your business would make great post to share. I love to read as well but haven't had anytime lately with a toddler always running around. The gingerboys looked tasty, I bet you all had lots of fun baking them. Cooking recipes are pretty popular around here. Once you get the picture taking down, you will do great. 😊
Steemit is a pretty tough platform for any of us to jump on and try to learn. It can get a little overwhelming and sometimes discouraging. That's where the @greetersguild comes in. As a Greeter Volunteer, I am here to give you a warm welcome into Steemit. I'm here for encouragement and support. If you ever have any questions, don't hesitate to ask to me. I will answer them the best that I can or I will direct you to someone that can. Anytime that you feel you have written a quality post, you can use the tags #greetersguild and #newbieresteemday. They are both meant for newbies to use as a way to help them hopefully get some more exposure at a faster pace. I encourage you to follow @greetersguild and @newbieresteemday, both of them are filled with Steemians who have a goal to support newbies through the tough beginning stages of Steemit. Good luck, have fun and steem on!
Thank you for the welcome. There is no doubt that I am struggling with the images - how to size them correctly, how to load them, should they have borders etc.
It is very cool that you are here @grandam. I actually am using this platform as a will and testament, sort of a daily diary to family for many years to come if they ever care to read it, or whatever technology this is all imputed into in the coming years. I am glad you stopped by @greetersguild so I could see your post. @magicalmoonlight is a very talented writer and someone very good to latch onto here and gain a lot of experience very quickly. I am glad to see you here and wish you all the luck on your next upcoming venture in life. Always ask a question if you don't understand or feel the need to comment on something, and don't ever be afraid to ask me as well! I am very pleased to see that have made it here!
Hi @grandam. I commented on your blog earlier when you posted, I am @cryptkeeper17, one of the people that works very closely within the @greeterguild. I saw your post thanks to @magicalmoonlight introducing you to the group. I think this platform is a great outlet to share a lot of your insight that you have gathered over your interesting lifetime, as well as a very nice entryway into your thoughts so that your family can hold on to them forever. That is actually one of my driving factors on here, to leave a fairly extensive online diary among visiting with people all over the world and this platform is perfect for that. I would recommend you to visit @mariannewest 5 minute freewrite. There are a lot of really neat and nice people there, they have been here a while so I think you can gather more value in upvotes quickly, and it's a very simple exercise in getting a post done once a day. You can spend far less time and interact with many more people being very efficient with your time. Also in the @greetersguild we have a program that we visit with all the people that are new to the platform and send them to the greetersguild introduceyourself link post so that the people that check that link will be able to see their post. We like to do this in real time and visit with them literally as quick as they join. This is something I get a feeling you would be very good at and could bring a lot of value. Feel free to get back to anytime I would be curious on your opinions on this, which I know is a lot to digest.
On behalf of the Steemit Greeters Guild and the Steemit community I would like to give you a warm welcome! This was a fantastic post and I am looking forward to hearing much more about your experiences in life and hearing your wisdom and insight.
Golf is such a frustrating game. I had an uncle who played semi pro until he lost most of the fingers on his dominant hand. I honestly couldn't get very far, shy of slicing the ball terribly. Though I can put relatively well, I chalked it up to golf not being my game, unless put put is in the mix :)
I am also very interested in hearing about your business venture. I cannot imagine how great it must have been to be able to travel the world. That is something I envy. If you have photographs and such, they would make for great articles on this platform.
I cant wait to see what else you have to post on here. If you need help growing on here and learning your way around, please reach out to me or my associates @greetersguild. Below is a link, if you click it you will be directed to our private chatroom. In this chat there are several people who can help you learn just about anything you would need to. I hope to see you there!

Hello Grandam, I found your post via one of my fellow community members @magicalmoonlight. I see that they have left a nice greeting below along with other members of the SSG. I, like you, also enjoy reading, so if you need help finding quality authors (well I liked them anyway), to read I have a nice list of them readily available. Sorry to hear about the exercise routine, and I hope it all stabilizes for you soon. Feel free to leave any questions you may come up with in the future on any of my post and someone from SSG or from #newbieresteemday will try to help find the answers.
