Well, it might be confusing but I always encourage people to read a lot before writing.
Unfortunately Hive learning curve requires you do to some homework before things start to get clear.
As for Steemit: be aware, after hostile takeover it's centralized, platform where you can suddenly be censored[1] or robbed[2] from your funds. To stay away from thieves and fraudsters we've forked from Steem on 20 March 2020 to continue the legacy of decentralized, blockchain based social media platform on Hive.
