Hello steemians? steemers?

space-intangir-f.png

Hello!

I guess I'll do a little introduction, seems to be the custom around here.

I just started checking out this whole platform, I've been getting pretty frustrated with facebook's blatant bias and censorship and one of my friends is apparently already into this platform.

I tend to go by Intangir or Intangir_V on every platform that allows it, hopefully some of the people already on the community will recognize me from elsewhere.

I appreciate #privacy and don't tend to be overly trusting or open with new people because many times people have shady agendas - there's no shortage of assholes out there and I've been jerked before, so having a nickname just makes good sense to me. Though over the years (I've been using this name for well over 20 years now) it has become more of my 'real' identity online. I hate how facebook demands you use your real name and confirm your identity, how does it make any difference to them? Plus they keep banning me for total bullshit reasons. I was once banned for being in a liberty memes group.. just for BEING in it, because they posted memes making fun of hilary. I also hate how so many cryptocurrency exchanges force you to send them like 15 forms of ID to use them.. I had been using and buying bitcoin for years and now suddenly I can't anymore without sending them all of my personal documents. Just getting on steem was a frustrating challenge because of so many government restrictions. government has effectively ruined most of the interesting aspects of crypto for me..

Anywho, seems there are not any large communities for many of the things i'm into here though.. but there are some at least

My philosophy

I was previously pretty serious into #philosophy especially related to #liberty and morality, I like to call myself a voluntaryist even though most really have no idea what that is..

basically I think people should deal with other people in a mutually voluntary manner, it is based on principles of non aggression (don't initiate violence), and a respect for property rights including capital rights (don't take people stuff). It does NOT have to do with an economy based on everyone volunteering.. or any sort of forced charity as many people seem to assume..

It is generally considered to be the same as anarcho-capitalism, and i would agree. but people also usually misunderstand that term, and both of its constituent concepts as well, so it seems no matter how you try to term it its going to be misunderstood (and reviled by some), but #voluntaryism has the least reprehensible common misinterpretations so i guess ill stick with that.

I still pretty firmly believe voluntaryism is the most moral, practical and life enriching of the different moral philosophies but I just got tired of trying to engage with people over the idea. seemed like most peoples idea of debate or discussion was telling you your stupid and dismissing everything you say.. I spent years trying to discuss these ideas and the only thing that really came of it was it helped me better understand the ideas, and other people.. which made me like the ideas more, but like most people less, mostly because of how flimsy and unexamined their justifications are for initiating violence.

Which leads me to my 2nd disappointing point about voluntaryism: we are a looong long way off from a society where it would be practical/practicable. It even seems like we are going in the wrong direction in the last couple decades.. so regardless of how efficacious or awesome it could be, I doubt there is any way we'll see it anytime soon.

Politics

I hate #politics.. don't like talking about it, but inevitably end up doing so anyway because that seems to be all anyone else ever wants to "talk" about. and i say that generously because mostly people are just yell at each other imply or assume the other party is crazy or evil, and throw their hands in the air in disgust. Honestly thats pretty much what I do too. The climate for political debate in the US these days is absolute trash.. hopefully its not so bad on steemit here but im not holding my breath. I consider politics entirely separate from philosophy now because no one ever talks about principles in relation to politics, there is only like 1 or 2 politicians that ever remotely use logical lines of reasoning based on principles to arrive at their conclusions in office today. Rand Paul, and sometimes Ted Cruz. Prove me wrong ;)

Economics

I have long understood many of what i consider the fundamental principles of #economics, some from learning things the hard way, and others just made sense to me inherently even as a child. But it has always confused and surprised me how so many others seem to have absolutely zero understanding of even the most basic concepts related to economics. Like the subjective nature of value, and how it must be created/added or trying to maximize return of value based on invested time, effort, and other value, with the least risk. This I've always inherently understood but it took time to make good practical and consistent use of it, but for so many it seems to be completely incomprehensible, even something for them to get angry about for thinking about it.

I did put quite alot of thought and research into it anyway though, and while doing so I saw plenty that helped me to understand why so many find it so confusing. Because the field of economics is a shitstorm of bad ideas. How paul krugman is even remotely respected today is absolutely fucking beyond me. The guy has had a many decades long history of absolute and consistent failure to predict anything any market large or small or any impact any technology or company has had on the market.. and yet still he is put forward as an expert, and his patently worthless ideas and schools of thought are heralded as wisdom.. no, he is a complete fraud and so are the monetary policies, and the economics lessons he teaches.

I instead support the work of mises and austrian economists. I don't 100% agree with their approach alone but the principles for determining economic outcomes, and a very long history which pretty firmly supports everything they've taught complete the picture. I can't recommend enough the archive of economics books freely available on https://mises.org/library I have read dozens of the books on there and enjoyed all of them. They also have many books on liberty/libertarianism which I loved.

Entertainment

I'm also into #gaming, mostly on Ark, minecraft, gta5, and factorio lately. I mostly play on Ps4 lately also. didn't see any real community for any of these games here :(

I post alot of my gaming videos on youtube here https://www.youtube.com/user/Intangion

I might try to share here too in hopes that I can stir up a little something, hopefully it won't go totally unappreciated.

I also love It's Always Sunny in Philidelpha (favorite tv show, 13th season sucked though)
Game of Thrones, can't wait for the next season!
and i am loving the whole MCU series of movies, can't wait for End Game! (hopefully captain marvel isn't a turd either)

Programming

Also i love programming, ive been programming for over 25 years now. Programmed or scripted in surely over a dozen different languages..

heres my github: https://github.com/intangir

It's mostly old hobby projects related to gaming. my preferred language lately is #python (2.7 if it aint broke don't fix it), its just so damn easy to use and powerful. I used to love perl, C/C++, php, java and others as well but i haven't really used them much lately, seems like python can do just about everything. I still have alot of respect for those languages too and I'm sure ill use them again when the right need arises. I do alot of work with a variety databases and cloud computing mostly on AWS (some google cloud.)

Dislikes

I hate grammar and punctuation nazis, get outta here with that! I try to make my thoughts readable in print and try to include proper enough grammar and punctuation where i can, but overly obsessing about it seems to get in the way of sharing ideas.

I also dislike rigid "thinking" (being so closed minded you can even consider new ideas) and abuse of authority. I dislike the concept of authority in general but depending on how the word is actually defined some forms of authority are legitimate.

People Knees. cover your knees up if your gonna be walking around everywhere ;)

Any advice?

Well those are the main interests I'm hoping to enjoy on here, If you know of any related tags or your into the same stuff and want to say hi, please feel free to share below, any advice on how best to use the platform is also appreciated. Even really general advice on the platform and terminologies and infrastructure (in its current state, alot of what I found seems to be outdated and its hard to find specifics on new updates so far) is much appreciated!

See ya around!

Hey there @intangir welcome to steem! It's cool to see someone who values freedom and is annoyed with censorship, I just got censored on Facebook again the other day and I've been banned many times over there. Never once had a problem over here! Though I have heard of a few who went a bit too far and while they may have been banned from steemit or other front ends, there's others ways to access the steem blockchain if you know how.

seemed like most peoples idea of debate or discussion was telling you your stupid and dismissing everything you say..

Lol! Yeah.. Pretty much. I struggle with this on a regular basis, seems like most people are incapable of having a genuine discussion and just wanna tell other people how they think it is, even when it comes to things they can likely never be able to prove.

there is only like 1 or 2 politicians that ever remotely use logical lines of reasoning based on principles to arrive at their conclusions in office today. Rand Paul, and sometimes Ted Cruz. Prove me wrong ;)

I'm sort of in agreement here except I don't like Rand Paul anymore and I never liked Ted Cruz.. BUT.. There are a few like them and a few others who are LESS bad than the rest. I vibe with the term voluntaryist though I am also fine using the word anarchist to describe myself as I think it's good to stick up for meaningful words and not just shed them when a lot of controversy surrounds them. But.. I have certainly at times considered not labeling myself as certain things just because there's so much vitriol surrounding those subjects.

Any advice?

My main advice would be to find communities and contests to be a part of, they can make your experience here on steem a lot more rewarding and enjoyable. @steemitbloggers is a good one I think and there's a contest/community I'm part of and that I help run called the IFC or Information Finding Championship which I think is sorta similar to the ideas of voluntaryism. We consider everyone an equal and as much as I disagree with voting as mob rule, we do vote on important issues in the community. Myself and a few others do have more power in some ways as we own the community and there needs to be some guidance and direction, however we do our best to make it feel like everyone matters and that everyone has a voice and we decide as a community where we go into the future for the most part. Only rarely do I ever decide anything by myself or with the other co owners. And.. The community centers around a game.. Sorta like the UFC except instead of physically fighting we compete in a mental challenge to bring back information on various subjects, we also have a marketplace where people can P2P buy and trade and sell with each other and we once again want it to be as free as possible so we don't get involved unless something illegal happens and thankfully nothing illegal has happened and hopefully never does. If you'd like to learn more or try to join please feel free to ask and I'll do my best to help. You can also check out this link below to get an idea of what it's like.

It's kinda slow right now cause steem in general is slow with the low crypto value, but I think in time it will pick up again and right now we have a pretty good group of people who are very supportive and who often comment and leave feedback and it's a good place to make friends I think. :)

Other advice would be.. Socialize and go to other peoples pages and leave comments and also to go to the #introduceyourself tag and talk to other newcomers and make friends with other new people, I still do this from time to time and that's what I'm doing right now. :)

And finally just put out good content to build up your followers. It'll probably be slow at first as I said steem in general is rather slow right now, but I think in time when the market HOPEFULLY goes back up things will be popping again. Unfortunately many people are here just for the money instead of the lack of censorship so when the value is down they disappear and come back when the value is high, even though it's an even BETTER time to earn steem when the value is low.. Many don't seem to understand that. However.. Many are also trying to use this place as a way to make a living and when the value is so low that's really difficult unless you live in the 3rd world somewhere. So.. Having good expectations is important as well. If you're here to make money you might end up being disappointed, though if you're here to escape old social media and meet cool people and escape censorship you'll probably do a lot better and probably make more money in the long run too. Good luck on here and if you have any questions feel free to ask! I'll do my best to help and if I can't help maybe I can find someone who can. Cheers. :)
