Hi iramb131 unfortunately steemit doesn't have a private messaging system between blogs but you can go to https://steemit.chat/home and ask questions there. Post things you are interested in like photography, food, crypto currencies etc. Choose topics you like and can post lots of. Check the list of popular tags down the left hand side of your blog. Check what people are posting in the "New, Trending and Hot" to get ideas. Whatever you do don't spam people or the steemit police will punish you and will often destroy your account.
